The architecture is basically the same ( other than size) for all 9A1 engines in Carreras, Boxsters and Caymans. Only the fuel system is different for the Base Cayman and Boxster for 2009. I am not sure about more recent years.

I had a 9A1 DI 3.4 liter in my 987.2 Cayman S. It's pretty much the same engine as found in the Carrera of a similar vintage. Different displacement but as far as engine parts and all over.. plenty of it is marked as '997'. Oil filters, plugs, pretty sure the drive belt is the same, doors themselves.. and a heap of other stuff on the car is the exact same as on my 911. As I said, many of the parts were marked '997'. And they were installed factory, not some upgrades. Porsche was smart about doing a lot of parts sharing.

Wow - Summit Racing is fast. I learned about DI40 on Saturday, ordered some that day and the case of oil arrived before noon today.

About 2 months ago, there was a nationwide backorder for DI-40. Summit had a 5 week delay after orders before they could ship. No one else had DI-40 either. Stock orders are filled now, it appears. I continued using DT-40 I had on hand. Changing to DI-40 at next oil change.

Flew in to Atlanta on Friday to visit Flat 6 Innovations. Very very impressive place, attention to detail, organization and cleanliness is something to be desired by a lot of other shops i have seen. I didnt want to be too intrusive taking bunch of pictures there but heres a few from one of the buildings. Jud took almost two hours to show me around and explain everything in detail. Unfortunately i missed Jake by few hours due to my Turo rental timing. We rented a pair of 2014 and 2015 Porsche Boxster S for 4 days and took it on the trip from Atlanta to visit Flat 6, then Helen GA, then Cherohala skyway in Tennessee, Tail of the Dragon in North Carolina, then visited Asheville NC and back to Atlanta to come back home last night. Total 950 miles of driving in an absolutely amazing vehicle Porsche Boxster S. I have fallen in love with the car and i totally understand now what an amazing machine is Boxster S. It handles like an absolute dream on the twisties and Tail of the dragon was the best driving experience i have ever had!!! Heres a few photos from the trip.

Awesome! Great excuse for a road trip, a test drive, and to visit Flat6.

Any updated ETA on when you'll be getting your car back?

Congratulations Bronz - you're almost making an engine mishap sound like fun at this point. The photos are awesome.

The "Tail of the Dragon" and surrounding area, is a great driving and road trip experience. My local PCA club rents the Tapoco Lodge for a 3 day excursion every October (Fall colors are beautiful) for a fantastic road trip !!

You are very fortunate to be able to do this with your family. Is your car a PDK or 6sp manual?

Bronz, always good to see families go on road trips like these. Unfortunately, I don't have family that shares the same passion as myself, but be thankful, you have people in your life that are willing to spend time with you enjoying the same interests. Your car is in best hands in the business. Without a doubt, your 997 will be better than when it arrived at Flat 6 Innovations. I have yet to meet anyone or speak with anyone that has regretted or had a negative experience with this company.

Bronz,
We almost got lucky enough to meet! I had planned to be on vacation to Disney last week, then my daughter snapped her arm and ended up in a cast... She decided that she didn’t want to go to Disney, so we just spent the week in the mountains.. I only missed you by a couple of hours as we had somewhere to be.

Thank you for the kind words. You can probably see that I run my place in a military manner, and that a lot of time is spent keeping things organized, and clean. With 3 buildings and 32,000 Sq Ft its a lot to keep up with, but each area has its own purpose, and each builder has his own realm. No single room ever has two people working inside of it... Also, you probably noticed there were no radios, or distractions. Just silence.

Anyway, yes we are still on schedule to have the engine completed on- time. You got lucky, and took advantage of a “hole” that was in the schedule. Now there are no holes and we are booked solid all the way till September 2020 and not accepting any new work until we whittle this backlog down to a more manageable amount. Having a wait list, to get on the wait list is not something we like dealing with. :-)

Thanks for being a great purchaser, and coming to see where the magic happens.

bronz....I'm glad you got to come to our side of the world and drive these amazing roads we have here. It's the reason I bought my Porsche.

Hope you'll get to enjoy your own car there someday.
