Default High Pressure Fuel Pump 997.2

Pump went out last weekend, looking at a $1500 repair bill. My 09 has almost 80K miles on the clock. Oh well, I guess its the cost of ownership.

That's a bummer. Mine died a few months before the CPO expired.

Wasn't there a recall on the HPFP?

2009 C2S 118K miles

Bummer.... this is one of the only failures I have heard about from age or use.

What was your symptoms? Was your quote from a dealer? Did you think about using an indy and if so, what was their price?

Peace

What year model is your car? Did you check with your dealer if recall has already been done on car?

There is a recall on 2009 model cars.

Ask your dealer if they can talk to Porsche NA to see if they will pay for it since it's a known issue.

Mine failed recently, CPO warranty had expired, and Porsche paid for the repair in full. Here's the thread I created about it:

Good luck

If this is a DIY project there is a pump on ebay right now for 350. Make sure you verify the part number as there is a difference in the 09 and 10's. I bought one of the 4 available from my seller last weekend. I offered less than asking price and it was accepted. It absolutely looks new.
May I ask how you know your HP pump has failed?
The good news is that it is something you could probably replace yourself if you like to get your hands dirty
Look at the DIY threads.
Good luck
Bill

Quite easy to replace if you're decently mechanically inclined.

This problem came out of nowhere, car went into limp mode. and then it had a long start time, due to the pump failure. its takes a long time to build enough pressure to start. My final bill was 1450.00. I used my trustworthy local shop, not a dealer.

Mine is being replaced as I write this. Reputable shop was chasing down a bunch of fault codes. None of them point specifically to this as a fix, however he has had other cars that take too long to start that are remedied by replacing the HPFP. The codes would indicate air leaks but he has smoke tested the systems and they are all tight.
Hope it works, or I just spent $1,500 for an unnecessary shiny part.

Someone in here did A write up on replacing it. Right now it looks like you pick up a hpfp on ebay for 300. When mine went 2 years ago, they were nowhere to be found and if you could it was 8-1100 for the pump alone. My bill was going to be 1700 CAD but it ended up being covered under tge emissions warranty on the vehicle. These hpfp seem to be problematic, mine threw "reduced engine power" code and would run like crap as not enough fuel was getting to the motor. I'm wondering if it would be a good part to keep in stock. Just need to find a bunch of 997.2 DIYers in my area who want to stock this part.

My 997.2S has had the pump replaced twice in 87k miles. I called PCNA and asked them to replace it under goodwill the second time stating it is a known issue with these cars. I said in a $100k car it is ridiculous to have to replace the fuel pump twice in less than 100k miles. They helped get the local dealer onboard and the replacement cost me nothing.

If anyone reading this would like to have a spare HPFP on the shelf in case theirs develops a problem, I have an almost new pump that I bought from an ebay vendor when I had my 2009 C2S.
$200 plus shipping. P/N on the pump is 9A1.110.315.02
send me an email through rennlist if interested

Yes okbarnett, that is correct. But I just had the pump replaced three months ago at 85000 miles. PCNA was very helpful in getting the dealer to pay for the repair. The recall has long since expired obviously.

My 2009 goes in for this repair on Wednesday. Factory recall so it won’t cost me anything. I have had no problems though.
