Anywho..... just my opinion.... at some point we own these cars and the dealers/factory have nothing to do with it. A fuel pump is a pump and they will fail in time according to some probability model. I think it is more than reasonable that we own our 11 year old cars, regardless of the mileage.

What a murky area. I agree that we shouldn't expect fuel pumps to last forever but I think it would be nice to find some kind of consensus on whether or not some of the older HPFP's are a recall item or not. And if they are, what are the conditions to qualify? Build year of the car, mileage or anything else. Based on the posts on this thread I sure as hell can't find that consensus. But I'm not complaining since based on one post here, mine was replaced as a recall even though the build date of my car should have disqualified me.

Sorry to hear about number 3. As others have said, if they don't do it at no cost you should be entitled to some goodwill. Also curious that you found a reference to the official recall while others have been told it wasn't a recall item.

I would do due diligence. Porsche has updated the HPFP at least once and probably more. I personally try to buy using the latest Porsche part number.

Didn't know that there was a new design on the pump. 09 C2S, just had the pump replaced ( $1600 by an Indie) Do you know the part #?

I started another thread on this so apologies for not finding this one. Such an Enzo move.

As an FYI, I had my pump replaced at 12,000 miles on my 2009 Carrera S 997.2, and the new pump, which I confirmed is the appropriate replacement part, failed after 40,000 miles on it. My first attempt with PCNA to get Goodwill coverage was very positive and they told me to take the car out of the independent shop and put it into the dealer. I did that and the next day they sent me a note telling me they denied everything.

No surprises, really, except for the customer service rep completely indicated that they were going to take care of it or I never would have taken it out of the shop like I did.

I will escalate again, because there’s clearly a latent defect in the part and it doesn’t cost me anything to make my case. Frankly, I maintain the car very well, like most of the people here, and to have two fuel pumps in 53K miles is inexcusable.

IMO, Porsche should either throw Bosch under the bus, or at least be charging them for this disaster. My understanding is that this is also a very common issue with BMW, Audi, Mercedes, etc.

my 2 cents... thx

brendo.

That indicates they are on their sixth generation. Ugh.

Good! Maybe they will have it figured out by the time I have to replace mine.

The HPFP died with no warning just 650 miles after I purchased a 2009 4S with 37,000 miles. As others noted, the car went into low power mode and was very hard to start. IMO, it's a tribute to Porsche's engine control software that a GDI vehicle runs at all on less than 30 psi fuel pressure!

Closest Porsche dealer is over 90 miles away. Dealer wasn't helpful even after I spoke to the SM. They denied there was an official recall even after I quoted the bulletin number. A local independent replaced the pump and thermostat (it was already out so why not?). Total cost was $1600 parts and labor.
