What are the most ludicrous offers you've received from a dealer? I got this one yesterday on a base 2020 992 with 17k miles and $120k MSRP. $3k+ in useless add-ons and $9k for a VSP on a CPO (??!!!)... on top of sale price that's already ~$5k+ above market. Great way to lose my business indefinitely. Bay Area dealer.
Used 992's with CPO's from dealers are usually offered at over MSRP....that's nothing new...it's the norm.
Couple things you should know prior to trying to negotiate...
How long has the car been there...is it a car that was originally sold and has been serviced by that dealer...makes a difference in regard to pricing, since they know the history and previous owner of the car
How much work did the car need to get certified CPO...those cost are added to the price of the car
Most Porsche dealers operate on a 20% profit margin for CPO cars...so if they had to buy the trade-in at a high cost and CPO it, chances are the price will be high...if it's been there awhile then they may be motivated to move it.... if it's a recent addition, they will want all the money they put into it.
Did the salesperson say you must accept the Stargard, Revolver plate and VSC as a condition of the sale?
I'm thinking those may be declinable "options".
I agree $1300 for GPS and $1500 for a gimmick plate, you probably don't need.
But I would find out what the duration is for the VSC and compare it to 3rd party warranties...it may end up being a good deal. $8K for an extended warranty is not a bad price depending on the duration and level of protection, but you may not need it until after the CPO expires in 2 years.
The $500 Xpel sounds like a partial hood with full bumper for that price. It's probably good for the very minimum protection.
It could be the finance dept. has stipulated the inclusion of the options for the 10% finance rate. So, if you're not paying cash, get it financed from some other lender...lower rates are out there!
I'm sure Porsche salespersons send many of these out to perspective buyers...I'd think you would agree that the number of actual buyer's vs people that walk in and ask "how much is that car" is pretty lopsided.
Those that reply back and have a decent dialog may show the dealer you are serious.
SK911 is right. This is a business transaction on a vehicle that is not rare. Simply send them your offer and tell them to contact you ONLY if they accept it. Then move on to another car. Most of the time, if your offer is reasonable, they will call you back. Sometimes they don't.....in which case you move on.
My little "Gotcha" when they DO call back is I say something like "I didn't think I would hear back from you so I am in the process of buying a car from another source. If we are going to do this deal it needs be done in the next couple of hours, otherwise I am going with the other 911".
