We're definitely subsidizing shops a bit and maybe improving safety some here in VA. I'm pretty sure there's a lot more human error or hubris than equipment failures behind traffic accidents around here.
I take all our cars to their respective dealers for inspection because they are not in business to clip $300.00 from me. They want to sell their service, and new cars. I stay way far away from "independent" garages.

There is a Sharkwerks build on BaT with at least $120k worth of mods and service done to it. Probably $10k worth of carbon in the interior.

Good test case of mods as compounded loss

I think that car has a few YouTube videos too. Nice ride but agree the mods you never get back and be prepared to lose it all on sale or an accident. As I like to say…there is an *** for every seat .

Someone on PCA Mart is selling a 550 horse Ruf conversion. In one image I spy a Carrera GT. Wow.

Open cars don’t cut it for a hot rod unless it’s a Deuce Roadster.😉

I just saw this. $89k ask for an '03 Arctic Silver coupe with near 30k miles! Is that ambitious or is that where prices are - or what? They say mine's only worth 30! Grrr.

( if an ebay link is verboten? please remove with my apology )

2003 with low miles, that’s either a bargain now or soon will be

It's not "low enough" miles for that price, and it looks as though there's been a few alterations:
  • Sports seats have been added
  • "Aluminum Look Interior Small" package bits seems to be missing
  • Painted Centre console is new
  • Carbon fiber interior pieces are new
  • Sport Techno wheels are gone
I'd say more like $75-80K depending on history.

That 2001 is a gem though. I think it's an early VIN as I don't have it in my database and 5,800 mi cars are sort of in their own orbit with prices.

on the mods question… I have a manual 996 TTS with 42k miles that is stock, except for an phone cable that links to the OEM stereo.

I kinda want to upgrade the seats to 997 sport seats. I think they are plug and play, so would be easy to convert back.

I also kinda want to add the GT2 or Ruf front bumper, but that would be more of a pain to change back.

I plan to own it for another 5+ years. It won’t be a low mileage car when I sell, but probably still under 100k miles.

would those two mods significantly reduce the value?

I know it’s my car and I should do what I want… but seems silly to spend $10k on stuff that will reduce the value of the car!

To a collector..yes. you can always put the old seats back in but the bumper would be bit of a challenge if you go the full gt2 conversion route.

I wouldn't worry one bit about adding Porsche seats or a GT2 or RUF bumper. The mileage at, or near, let alone over 100k; will reduce the "value" of the car sufficiently as to make any other "reversible" mods moot, relative to market "value".
