Ooh, ooh, uh, I had a Fiat X1/9 that I'm pretty sure wasn't designed to be driven on a regular basis.

A low mile car that has been taken care of properly is always the best buy, Rick your car needed a trans rebuild if I remember correctly= bad luck or an abused trans? A high mile car is a good buy for a diy person or someone that has a good budget and wants a low price ticket. I really shouldn't bother as most are justifying their purchases. I have high mile cars but understand reality and the car game= no one wants a car over 100k much less a sports car- on average.

Yep, my X1/9 was a lot of fun when it was running. Would love to get another one someday.

My girlfriend drove mine mostly thru high school and I eventually let her keep it. I drove my stock 1949 Chevy fastback deluxe coupe or 1936 Plymouth coupe hot rod also had a 1962 Buick special that I really liked. Edit was a 1962 had all aluminum v8.

Yup. My point being that low miles alone are no guarantee that you're gonna be ok.

Between tranny job, slave cylinder (neither of which was identified as an issue at PPI), power steering reservoir, 30k mile service, serpentine belt (which I'm not sure if it was even really needed) and a couple other small items I can't recall and sales tax on all of the above, plus labor, I'm another $10k into a car that was priced quite high to start with.

For your consideration was my Corvair Spyder turbo. Least up time of any car I had as a young man. I think it was a one barrel carb...never could get it adjusted where it would stay running.

That does stink but the tranny was probably bad when you bought it and the ppi should have caught it and slave, price should have been reduced to cover the 30k service if it was close to due. I say have money set aside no matter what the miles. I do my own inspections. You still win with a lower mile car on average.
