That's some serious money. That's 997 territory if you look hard enough.

The jegermiester :P
Personally, I think you should spend $10,000 more and get one with less miles.

Now that we've gotten the Craigslist thread disclaimer out of the way, I think that one probably belongs in The Prestige thread.

Some people never let it go or grow up lol. Why does another opinion other than yours bother you so much? Spending a little more up front is almost always the smarter move financially and less headaches on average. Say what you want about me I don't mimic like a child and I let things go.

If you let things go you should stop responding. It obviously bothers you.

I think he used "letting things go" in the sense that he doesn't initiate things over and over again (as some do here). I don' take what he is saying as representing that he never replies after a topic is brought up again.

Just my take.

+1.

I never cease to be amazed (and not in a good way) at what people do to these cars.

Yes some people never stop looking for an argument and just move on. Not everyone believes that buying a car of this complexity with higher miles and a low budget is a smart move.

Group me with those who think that this buying scenario (high miles with a low budget) is generally a bad move.

add me on here as well. I'm just too much of a purist. These wrapped, ultra modded cars are the exact opposite of what I'd buy. Guess that's what makes us all different.

I would never say it is a bad move, as history/maintenance and personal use/situations are all different.

Now to say it is not a move you would make would be more accurate. No need to write every car off because it has 100k miles as un-sellable and purposeless while out of the other side of your mouth saying these cars are made to be driven. Just my opinion, and no dog in the fight...

That's fair. Everyone has different motivations. I always go back to advice that Bruce Anderson (RIP) used to give on buying Porsches. "Buy the newest, best Porsche you can afford."

And he was the foremost authority.

That was good advice and I took it as it works nicely with "the cheapest Porsche you buy may very well be the most expensive car you ever own."

A year ago, the slight dilemma for me was 996T or 997.1 Carrera S. We're only talking about a 3-5 year age gap, and they were both mid $40s.
But the 997 would always be around 355hp and always have a potentially flawed IMS bearing. So I spent mid $40s on a 43K mile '02 996T and have never looked back...

I beg to disagree on the 'newest' bit though. I don't think that's necessarily the case.

My 189k mile 996 is cheaper in maintence than my Vw Touareg. I buy higher mileage Porsches to be able to have multiple ones. Not one of them has been maintence nightmares. I've been looking for a 996TT with higher mileage but, that's bc I plan to build it for 1k hp. So I'm not to worried about resale or collector value. I just miss owning a turbo car. Don't suggest a 951 either. I do like them but, after owning one the 951 wasn't a good fit for me. I feel we're all fairly correct bc at the end of the day it's just our perspective on something WE want for ourselves.
