If the car were stock maybe but with the terrible additions/options no, if it were 40 a few here would be having wet dreams about it.

Those are some polarizing mods/options. I think the wood looks totally out of place.

I am usually a fan of the wood interior (I have it in mine) but in that particular combination, not so much.

Nice low mileage car, but the mods do nothing for me. I guess I am a stock kind of guy.

Well, if he's a scam artist, he's doing a horrible job of covering his tracks!

Based on the wording, it looks legit to me. 2001, 53k miles, black on black, 6 speed, lightly optioned, asking $34,995. I think that it's priced to sell as opposed to sitting on the market. Could be that he'll hold firm at that price or close to it, and I think that's on the "bargain" side of the market, but certainly not crazy low.

IMHO, I still believe that about 80% of the actual sales of these cars are between $33,000 and $41,000. There are some really cheap cars below $33k (probably 5%) and then some more expensive cars (probably 15% of sales). But, realistically, if you've got a $41,000 purchase budget, most of the market is going to be within your reach (which is cars priced at $45,000 or less).

You see people cite search results showing a lot of cars for sale on various websites priced at the top of the market. However, those cars sit on the market forever, skewing the search results. We saw one car in The Prestige Thread that had been on the market for 800 days. Also, those cars with asking prices at the top of the market sometimes sell at a steep discount - we saw that happen with another car in The Prestige Thread where the buyer of a car listed in there posted that he paid nowhere near asking price.

The cars that are priced to sell, like the above example, aren't going to be on the market long. I'll bet this car is gone by Valentine's Day.

Run the vin and have someone give him a call and go see it in person= and the answers will be had. The prices cars actually sell for are totally a guess as the people talking are usually the ones thinking they got a deal. There are way more buyers than you see here or on 6spd.

I just got off the phone with the seller of the black 2001 996TT with 53k miles priced at $34,995. He owns Driveline Automotive Consulting, which is his retirement business. He's an enthusiast.
He said that he doesn't have the car up on his website yet, but that he's already got 3 people interested in the car, including another dealer. He was very forthcoming with the car's condition:
The Bad: Has had paint work on the right rear 1/4 panel. It was repaired very well, but he can tell using a paint gauge that the panel was repainted.
He believes accumulator is starting to go based on light clutch effort. Still works, but he said in the not too distant future he believes it will need to be done.
Slight curb rash on two wheels.
Rubber bushings in the horn button will need to be replaced soon. From time to time the horn honks when turning the steering wheel all the way. Easy DIY and $1 for parts if you're not familiar with this problem.
5 owner car
The Good: Carfax is clean. No reported accidents.
Interior is in beautiful condition. Previous owner recently had the dash recovered.
Great stereo system.
No other mods than the stereo - bone stock
Michelins tires in good condition
Brakes in good condition
No 2nd gear popout or any other mechanical issues other than listed above
Although not a lot of options on the option sticker, has aluminum e-brake and shifter upgrade and heated seats
He said overall the car is in very nice condition and presents very well.

We chatted for a few minutes about the air cooled cars and some other vehicle types. From his website and speaking with him, appears to be a successful and retired executive who's living the dream with a fun retirement business. He's in Redwood City, CA. I have no affiliation with him.

That looks like an absolute smoking deal. Where was this when I was looking? I'm pretty sure it will be gone by the end of this week, esp considering how open the seller seems to be.

When cars like this comes up, you pretty much have to jump on it or it will be gone.

FWIW I tried running a VIN build sheet report from the supplied VIN# on cars.com, and it came back not found. Can anyone confirm this?

Agreed.

Now that I think about it if a dealer is interested in the car it's likely under priced.

I hope its a great car but honestly I'm sure if the vin was ran and car seen all would be self evident.

Well, kcattorney just confirmed it is legit. Great deal for whoever gets the car! Shockingly low miles for $35k. Whenever I saw a 996tt for $35k miles were over 100k.

I didn't see the word lie mentioned anywhere its just a good idea to run the vin on a car that your interested in and never trust the word of another. The condition has to be seen in person to get a feel for the car= pictures can and often do lie. 101 car buying.
