@kropka makes replacement shift boot surrounds. I added one to my car because my car didn't have one.

My stock 2003 Turbo has one. Perhaps the horseshoe part was included with the carbon shift ****?

I think there were one or two option packages (maybe P71 for example) that included the horseshoe.

If anyone is looking for a custom steering wheel w non lumpy leather airbag.
That looks like one of those very inexpensive stitch on 'alcantara' steering wheel covers, not a quality custom wheel. Still might be a decent deal, but don't buy it for the 'custom' steering wheel.

J-E Customs is the vendor I bought from. super happy, much nicer than the stock boot, and fixes the above problem...

You're right... they are leather. It was a while ago I replaced it... It is very *thin* leather, the replacement was nicer.

I think Porsche chose thinner leather (verse thicker leather) because thinner leather is more functional on the stock OEM shifter. It allows for more flexibility in shifter movement given that it is all one piece of leather (shifter leather and boot leather.) Thicker leather would probably be more restrictive.

My original shifter boot had no horseshoe trim ring.

The carbon fiber **** / boot I bought on Six Speed year ago has it all...best $300 I ever spent on the car!!!
