i guess that horseshoe on the shifter boot is a common issue... mine is also missing because it is in a ton of pieces on my desk that i tried gluing back together
@kropka makes replacement shift boot surrounds. I added one to my car because my car didn't have one.

That looks like one of those very inexpensive stitch on 'alcantara' steering wheel covers, not a quality custom wheel. Still might be a decent deal, but don't buy it for the 'custom' steering wheel.
The aluminum trim also had that shift boot surround, only available from porsche if you bought an expensive entire shift **** assembly. I bought an aftermarket replacement leather boot, nice quality, and it uses the same base but goes *over* that part with the basic or upgraded shift boot surrounds. They also are available in suede.
J-E Customs is the vendor I bought from. super happy, much nicer than the stock boot, and fixes the above problem...
I think Porsche chose thinner leather (verse thicker leather) because thinner leather is more functional on the stock OEM shifter. It allows for more flexibility in shifter movement given that it is all one piece of leather (shifter leather and boot leather.) Thicker leather would probably be more restrictive.
