Every model year resets the VIN counter (at least the last five digits), with the 10th digit rolling over another year. 2002 = 2, 2003 = 3, etc. For whatever reason, all of the NA 996 TT's all start around XXX62 as the first car in the VIN sequence for the model year. VIN's are generally sequential, but not strictly so - there are gaps, but it's entirely possible to have more than one car with the same last five digits.

Here's an article with more pics of the original auction. Definitely the same car. Having a sunroof headliner is very odd though

Default Opinion requested

I am looking at a 2002 996tt with 83,000 miles. The rev limiter info is 7904 ignitions in range one and 317 ignitions in range 2. 2265 hours with the last over rev 2.9 hours ago. This is within the 50 hour danger window. Is this a concern in purchasing the vehicle? It is in good condition with no records (just not his style unfortunately) but a friend of mine knows the owner for many years and he is not an aggressive driver and has owned the vehicle for about 9 years and put 40,000 miles on the car.

Any opinion would be helpful.

thank you

What do you suppose this means? Sounds like it might be "The gearbox was rebuilt by Vertex, but it's currently f*****d and needs to be pulled and sent back". Or am I reading too much into it?

[QUOTE=pfbz;18064238]From the craigslist ad:

Something is fishy. Why wouldn’t the seller take care of this before it is listed? Who would want to take on this risk?

I don't know much about vertex but usually the warranty only applies to the person who owned the car when the trans was rebuilt. I doubt it's transferrable but maybe someone with more info may know.

This one should be in a "Prices that make me laugh" thread like they have on Pelican.

For a nice example is it that unreasonable? I looked at a gt3 a year ago that new owner is asking double the price. That's crazy, but 996t prices up $10-20k over the last 1-2 years seems on point.

Totally unreasonable. A black 01 with 78k miles is not a $75k car, or a $65k car for that matter.
