I cheated on her.... Well, at least I got a bit flirtatious.
Test drove a 2014 991 Carrera.. A pristine and well priced little 3.4L with a rare manual transmission. Really nice car except oh gawd it felt like I was driving around with the emergency brake on after getting out of the Turbo. Really wanted to like it but ultimately it did nothing for me. It was, and felt, 100HP short.
They also had this really gorgeous mint white F-Type R, had to take her out for a spin. Absolutely a hoot. Tons of power (550HP), fabulous exhaust sound, super model looks... Very tempting. But ultimately I'm afraid it's a car i'd like to absolutely thrash around in for a week or so then give back the keys. But still...
Ironically the 2015 Jag top-of-the-line R, loaded with options ($118K sticker), depreciated to within a grand of the 2014 Base 911 ($95K sticker), both at mid 30K miles and $58K/$59K asking respectively... About the price of a really clean 30K mile 996 Turbo.
Conclusion:
991.1 Base w/ sport chrono, manual. Looks great, handles great, HUGE disappointment on power.
F-Type R. A 550 HP HOOT! This particular one was showroom clean and less than half original sticker. Didn't drive it enough to discover it's flaws, but price alone is tempting.
996 Turbo. It's always nice to jump back into a 17 year old car I already own and think that it EASILY holds it's own against these much younger temptresses...

I worked for a Porsche store when the 991.2 came out. I thought for sure I'd order one to replace my 996tt. Welp here we, 2 years later and I still prefer the driving experience of my "old" 6tt. Obviously the new tech was nice and all, but my 17 Duramax tech is all I need.
Hence the reason I'd only go test drive a 14 / 15' TTS as a possible replacement for my 6tt or even a 7tt (had I purchased one like I originally wanted to).
Started wrapping up coolant flush and started to mount the bottom plastic tranny shroud. Tranny looked like a Payday candy bar with gravel bits stick on the cosmoline. Then the ocd kicked in. 🤪

Wow! Impressive Oak, What kind of product did you use to get such result??? Other than elbow grease ;-)

Tools of the trade, wide selection of detailing brushes, a portable steam cleaner, a mix of some old simple green, 409, and some mineral spirits and dozen or so old t’s. On my back no lift! If you any ocd inclination all you need to do is start.

nice! I wish I had taken pics prior. I had detailed the rear half of the tranny and engine soon after I purchased my turbo new. So this extra detailing was on the back burner. Coolant flush was the reason for plastic shroud removal. Small nugget sized gravel were stuck to the cosmoline it reminded of a payday candy bar. Post pre and post pics. Have fun!😬
