Car had a slight misfire and if it sits for more than a week it will start missing really bad. The coils had the original 996 part numbers on them so it was time to replace them and we have some nice weather here in NJ for the time being. Someone replaced the plugs because they were pretty much new but I put in the proper Bosch plugs..not sure why someone would go through all the trouble of taking this thing apart and not replacing the coils as well. Hope to get it together soon and drive it again and am hoping for better performance as well!
Those were some OLD coils if they had 996 numbers. If they were in that long? Could have been the very first plug change for whatever the plug swap interval is ( that I always used to do "early", but no more ). I haven't swapped coils in maybe 5 or 6 years OR plugs. But still I'm under recommended intervals. ( I think..) Any misfires in these are often if not *usually* cracked coils. I always wondered if those "heat shields" ever really helped dissipate any!
My car came with a Raid steering wheel and part of me wants to go back to an original wheel. Am I just setting myself up for disappointment?
I would be disappointed, and have a 340mm Raid also. I love it and would never swap back to that OEM wheel. I never liked it ever. That Raid is actually valuable these days. Try finding a new one. You probably can't.

I didn't think you had to remove the intercoolers to do plugs/coils. Is there a reason you did so?
Removing the intercoolers is the easiest and quickest way. You can try doing it without but it will take you 2 or 3 times as long and be very frustrating.
^ Completely agree re removing the I/C's and unplugging stuff. Yanking all that stuff out first, allows so much more and easier access. It can be done without? But you'd need an elf sized hands and otherworldly dexterity. Plus you get to ensure your I/C hoses and all are snug.
Ok, thanks. I was going to do coils in conjunction with 997.2 intercoolers but still waiting on a set of used ones to pop up.
From conversing with you here I was under the impression that you plan on just tooling around mostly on the street?
If so and I might offer some advice in that regard? Your money would be far better spent on other add on's other than the 997.2 I/C's, as "heatsoak" driving around on city streets and even highways is a non issue. I don;t know how or what the car already has bolted on to it. But yeah. So many things additional to buy for these cars. I get it!
If you do however discover heatsoak to be a problem while on public roads? You're speeding - a LOT

I've heard it could be beneficial for non-track use. I am anticipating very dirty and possibly bent fin IC's when I remove the bumper. I believe my car was tracked quite a bit. I found lots of rubber bits in the front radiator intakes and service records mention track use. It does get very hot here but I'm not sure if the temp delta is linear when ambient goes up. Most of the upgrades are suspension and brakes aside from a mild tune.
