He has mentioned in the past that he mostly uses Mobil 1 0W-40. But keep in mind he lives up in New England.

OMG how's that possible, I was reading just the other day that Mobil1 is a piece of **** and you're gonna grenade the engine if you use it.

Can't agree with that one, some really bright engineers spent alot of time specifying that oil for these cars....I'm just one data point.....not the trend....can say the oil works rather well in my use of it....based on internals condition at 383,000 miles...

He lives in New England. The temperatures his car experiences are nothing like what cars in the sun belt go through.

I don't recall the disparaging of Mobil1 being restricted to cars in the south, but I may be wrong.

Track driving, bumper to bumper traffic are frequent occurrences, and pretty hard on an engine, doesn't offset hot weather, nor does hot weather offset for frequent sub zero starts

Yes, choose your oil weight base on conditions. 0W-40 is prefect for you but it might not be idea say in Miami or Arizona.

I am a little south of you and use my Turbo in almost the exact same way as you. Just not as much . I use 5W-40 or a blend of 0W-40 and 5W-50.

If I or either of the two Kevins were involved in the conversation regionality would have brought up along with mileage and any trouble the owner was experiencing.

given a long enough timeline.. oil debates, will require geographical coordinates.

You can use whatever oil you want. It is your car.

I'm sold on m1 5/50.. changed today, my 2nd or 3rd(?) fill. Car literally purrs, and not one loose marble sound to be found
I was mostly "blending" before but I feel now that's unnecessary, for street driving with changes every 5k.

I use 0W-40, and change every 3k miles. Maybe over the top.

New to the Porsche world and jumped into a 02 turbo with 297k km ( 185k miles). I was looking for an E46 m3 convertible so I can go for rides with my wife and daughter on days we have time to hang out. I always had my eye on the 996 turbos but wasn't ready to spend $45k plus Canadian for a third car that would be driving periodically. But then I came across this high mileage turbo and once I drove it I fell in love. I payed $30k for the car. The car has some light mods including europipes exhaust, car is lowered but still haven't taken off the rims to see the suspension set. Short shifter. Gt2 clutch. 19 inch forged rims. Gt3 carbon fiber rep seats. Full Porsche carbon fiber interior trim. The car is so much fun and I have already put 3000 km with no issues... Except for the abs and psm light during on right after I purchased it. I purchased a durometric so I can checked the code and read right passenger sensor. The car is not perfect but for that many km I feel the car is great. Now that I own my first turbo I'm so glad I took the chance on the high km. Also reading this thread and seeing what T2 has accomplished. My car is just broken in.

02 turbo with 297 km
