Well, dealer could not find anything wrong with the car. The sound from the steering pump that I have is normal. So it seems you guys that have had the problem must be hearing some real loud steering pump noises... and they kept mine overnight to listen to it from cold...

On my way to pick up the car now.

Mine was somewhat intermittent, but when it happened, you could hear it. Mine did not have a problem cold...actually after it warmed up...I told the dealer to replace it and handed them a copy of the TSB....they did it under warranty.

Thanks LTC - for clarifying it's not the noisy pump but loose connections on certain VIN's that is really the issue

T2 and others, there are two ISSUES BOTH will cause a failure and possible fire!!

One being the loose hose fitting

2nd being a faulty pressure release valve located inside of the Pump reservoir, as the valve sticks the pressure in the pump circuit goes thru the roof, it blows out the viton seals between the sump reservoir and pump. Once the seal are breached the Petosin squirts all over your cats, and turbochargers..

Similar issue as the hose connection coming loose..

Again two seperate issues...

Ok guys..

This is what casued the fire. (the notice posted above.)

My Ins co has settled with me on the car. They are prepearing for a lawsuit with PNA. They have the car stored for safe kepping in some sort of vault or something.
I also have my lawyers looking into a posible suit as well.

Ill keep you posted.

Why does this only affect 2003 cars?

Who would you sue if the ins company paid you for the car?

..... or the dealer he bought the car from. It was a pre-owned car and I "think" (not positive) it was also a CPO car. Doesn't sound like the dealer did their due diligence to make sure all outstanding TSB’s applicable to that particular car were resolved.

I'm glad they were able to determine the exact cause. BTW - can you say "free 997 Turbo?"

Would you mind sharing details of the settlement? Did you get something approximating your cost, or that number minus extra depreciation, or the actual wholesale value of the car the moment before it caught fire? AS

From one Charlottean to another, glad that nobody was injured and that you've settled with the ins co.
I think I'd seen your car in my area of Southeast Charlotte/Ballantyne area about a month ago - was that you?
