I have to be honest... if my car starts to get on fire... last thing I want is to put out the fire... let that sucker burn to the ground... then I would get another one... trying to fix a half baked car must be a pita...

I will get the dealer to look at mine during the 60K service.... every morning I can hear the pump... maybe not the loud whine people have reported... but louder than what normal should be...

Holy crap. With no wire harness issues in the 996, I wonder what caused it?

That sucks.

As I'm changing my fuel pump I'm reading this.

Double checking for leaks..........................

That would make me cry.

It could have been an assembly line error with a malfunctioning torque gun or a temporary problem with a supplier, I don't really know.

I say Burn Baby Burn!!

My Car is Insured for $50,000AUD Grand more than I paid for it based on the companies market value.

I would hate for them to try and repair a melted Marsh Mellow!!

The real problem is based on my experience insurance companies make it a habit of paying out far less than the value claimed to be insured, often coming up with many unimaginable though apparently verifiable excuses (apologies if anyone is in the insurance business, but I have been burned a couple of times, no pun intended).

Either way, must say that so long as no one is hurt, that is most important. For me, am going to be getting the power steering line checked no matter what, and will be looking to install a halon fire extinguisher. Just dont want the hassles. I am surprised that there are still cars obviously out there which have not gone back for the recall. Saw another incident on another site where the poor gentleman had just gone for a track day and within minutes of leaving had power steering fluid being deposited all over the turbos.

I agree 100%. Once a fire starts on a car, just get out and let it burn. Trying to fix a burned car is tough. Insurance is also likely to give you more for the car than you could get trying to sell it on your own unless you invested a lot in modifications.

It is kind of funny that insurance will pay to replace a car that burns, but won't give you a cent for one where the engine blows up on its own.

remember the FE can also be used when you or someone else gets caught in the fire, so even if you want to "let it burn" having one is still a good saftey idea!!

Still sorry to hear about your trouble at least no one was burned to death

I know we all feel like it won't happen to me, but bottom line is it happens more often than you'd like to believe! Years ago, I was in a "porsche only" body shop and you'd be appalled at the number of engine fires we received! I sell recharged halons and halotrons on pelican. I will only ship within the US lower 48! Cheap insurance for an otherwise bad situation!!

Somehow I don't think a 5# fire bottle is going to put out a fire like this.......

Even in a Cup car, once you pull the trigger/handle on a hard plumbed fire supression system (3 nozzles, one in the bonnet, one in the cockpit and one in the engine bay), get out/away from the vehicle as quickly as possible.

Very glad that no one was hurt.

I have a Halotron extinguisher and believe me that would be the first thing I would pull out of the car so it does not burn down with it…
