H-7 Quote: Wilber's Turbo would be in another state. Trust me, I've been in it. With slicks, he's probably got a 10 second car as is, I'm not kidding. From a roll on, his car can probably destroy almost anything save for a few heavily tuned R1's or GSX-R 1000's.

Are you saying that Wilbers twin 996 is the porsche to beat?

CJV: I always surf over to the big boys board to see whats going on over here. That video doesn't surprise me at all. I never get that lucky to find a goof ball in whatever that ricer VR 3000GT car is. I would think the 996 twin could holds its own against that ricer. I saw a guy once run a twin 300zx till the motor blew when he opened the hood both turbos were solid glowing red. We were only going about 150mph at the time. I guess with a adj boost control things like that happen. btw I changed my avatar since the board crash of 2003.

It depends on what benchmark you are using as a basis for comparison. Not only is his car very fast in a straight line, it is also well balanced for cornering.

His is definitely one of the faster 996TT's out there. Ask anyone who went on the Malibu run yesterday, they can tell you how quick that car is in a straight line even at partial throttle.

Of course, there was an 890hp 993TT yesterday that probably was substantially faster than almost anything I've ever seen including the other hopped up Turbos yesterday, but the 996TT is a better balanced car and is more predictable around the tight stuff.

It sounds like you have an extremely fast drag race car, but how does it handle around a track or in the canyons?

But before we go off on a tangent here, I don't know if wilber's Protomotive 996TT is the ONE to beat. However, it is a 625 whp, 10 second car with a full coilover suspension setup, rollbar, etc, that is perfectly streetable and reliable, running only 1.1 bar of boost. No boost controller needed or anything like that. I think that says a lot.

But it seems that even cjv's route may end up being loosely similar to wilber's setup at the end of the day. For one, both are running the Garrett GT ball bearing turbos. cjv what do you think?

In any case, it would eat that vr-4 for lunch.

Ruiner, wait til you tune your 996TT and take it to the track or the canyons, you won't miss that Mitsubishi one bit. And besides, the 996 body is much stronger and safer than the 3000 GT.

That VR-4 had more than just 'basic' mods, so the outcome was understandable. Then again, almost any car, with enough money, can be made faster than any other car. Pretty impressive to see a STOCK 996TT do so well against a highly modded 3000GT VR-4 (a car that runs mid 13s @ 102mph stock).

Honestly, I don't really miss the Mitsu that much. It was time to get a new car, anyway. The 996TT and VR-4 are in COMPLETELY different leagues. It is nice to find a more grown-up board that lacks the trolls that sometimes invade. Thanks for the well-wishes.

Thank you for updating me on my financial situation. Real noble of you. Who says I'm jealous? I was just kidding and didn't mean to offend wilber in any way. And how do you know I will never be able to own a car like wilber's? I'm only 18 and am attending a good school. I've got a long time to save up for a sweet car.

One last thing... Why are you guys even comparing a 996 to a 3000GT? They're nowhere close in terms of performance. Any car can be made fast, there's no reason to take offense to getting beat by a "lesser" car.

True, both are 6 cyl, AWD, 6spd (tip as well), and twin turbo. That's about the only common ground between them. I just posted the video because it has a 996TT in it, that's all. Figured that everyone would want to see a nice Porsche video...

Guys I think I have an idea bout why the 3000GT won the race. If you look close at the video right after the first two races, when they are showing the money he won, you can see a red NOS switch on the center console. In the last race the 996 got the hole shot but down the track the 3000 was ahead, (I believe he juiced it)

Fine, make fun of me that I have a Bimmer. I know I haven't pulled the trigger in getting my 996TT yet... so I'll take it.

But any track or canyon, I'll take on your 964 with my 740i... and show you what inferior BMW engineering can do!
