Now I can hear the beast, I can hear the turbo spool up, in-cabin noise at low speeds can be modulated with the pedal, at full throttle this thing sounds very sweet. I will wait for a letter from the Homeowners Association before I make any changes
Special thanks to PorscheDoc for the detailed instructions that are posted on www.turbo911.com . It made the task extremely easy.
A few photos:

OK, I know that for most folks out there this thread is useless. I am years behind most of the folks here in terms of 996 TTurbo ownership. Most of the stuff listed or shown here has been done by most of you. Again, just my place holder for the stuff I keep doing to the car.
Got tired of looking at all the cosmoline... so I started to clean the engine. Work in progress... this was the easy part... now I need to get in there with a plastic scrub sponge and a hard plastic brush.

Feeling any better?
How's the sound on that? Is it straight through as I saw on the picture? dam must sound sweet!
For the engine cleaning (non painted or coated parts only), got to auto zone and buy Eagle One's (I think) Mag Wheel Cleaner. It's a silverish trigger bottle.
This will leave aluminum parts like they just left the mold with very little effort Gre at for ugly calipers also. Just rinse alot so you don't have any residue left. BUT DON't GO CRAZY WITH IT & BE CAREFUL with coated parts or they will look too new also!

Sound is loud. But sooooo much better than the souless sound from the stock setup. Just read that Fabspeed is coming out with a revised version of the 996TT exhaust system that gets rid of the in-cabin drone... I will email them to see how much that section cost (good thing these units are modular and you can swap section depending on what you want). I will, however, wait for the homeowners association to complain before I get into the expense
Thanks for the tip on the Mag Wheel Cleaner... I have some of that stuff at home. I will give it a try this weekend.
