Well.... check engine light came on again... it came on a week ago. I took it to the dealer on Dec 31st and it was an error code from the oxygen sensor in the 1st bank, before cat. It is the same sensor that was giving an error code last year. They cleared the code and told me to continue using the car... not worth it to change at the time since it was close to a year from the last time it gave the error... if the error came back again then to go ahead and change it.

Well... CEL came on again last night when moving the car around... so it is time to order an oxygen sensor and replace it.

Turns out it is covered by CPO... went this past Monday (Feb 11) to get it fixed and they had to order the part... so going Friday again to get it replaced. They did, however, fix the headlight switch (rather replaced it) since it was acting up.

996-613-535-00 Headlight Switch replaced also under CPO.

Mileage: 61,249

That is all for now... work got me traveling more these days... so all projects with not much progress...

I will be doing the DE in Sebring in June 28 (Citrus Region hosting on the 28- Suncoast hosting on the 29) and will be working over the next few weeks to address anything that could cause problems during the DE.

Got a quote on a new set of rotors, pads, squeal pucks, from Sunset Porsche.

I will post a new thread to ask for suggestions on preventive work before a DE...

Thank you! I just updated the first post to include the suspension changes to the wish list. I am thinking of going with the PSS10 setup. Having second thoughts on this... not sure if to go with JIC Cross Competition Coilover setup instead... But not sure if that will be in before the DE....

Send Rennlist member 'tkerrmd' a PM about tracking a 996TT, he has LOTS of good experience.

FWIW, I would recommend a new set of pads, brake fluid flush (preferrably with something other than OEM fluid...Castrol SRF or Motul RBF600) and remember to NOT set the parking brake when you are done with your session, stay off the brakes during the cooldown lap and remember to let the engine run for 3-5 minutes before shutting it off.

If you also have time, installing a set of 996 GT3 Cup brake ducts (simple DIY, available from Sunset Imports) is also a good idea.

Have you considered installing the OEM non smoker's kit in the center console?
Nice little piece, removes the ashtray and gives you a small storage tray with rubber bottom.

Eric at Bumperplugs did one for my car, painted Lapis Blue to match the center console, I like it much better than the ashtray.

Are you kidding? Tom? Who is he?? LOL... if it was for him I would have been racing this thing a long time ago. He gave me a lot of advice. That is how I initially started with the list of mods and why I have the LFW on the list. I drove his car when I went to pick up the FB Cats.

New set of pads - check! Ordering those (and a set of new rotors) from Sunset Porsche in a couple of weeks.

I just had (at the 60K service) the dealer perform a brake flush... should I still change that for Castrol SRF or Motul RBF600? I have never done this in the 996TT, is it the same as in my 964? can I use the motive bleeder I have?

Parking brake - gotcha. Will even put a post-it around the ebrake to remember.

Cool down of the engine - I do that even after a short trip to the supermarket... but only for a minute or two... will leave it running for a longer period during DE.

GT-3 front brake ducts, Rear GT2 brake ducts -Front Part No: 996-341-117-90 and 996-341-118-90 - I had those in my list and decided not to do it since the car was not going to the track and the feedback was that these scrape everywhere. I will get them now.

I am also thinking of getting new diverter valves and putting those in before DE.

I had it on the list until this morning... decided that I could use the $ in the stuff I will need to make it track worthy... but I agree, that ashtray is useless... change that falls there is next to imposible to get out. I use it to store the lighter when I have the battery tender plugged in.

Castrol SRF will enable you to NOT have to bleed between days/events/runs, due to its high wet boiling point. IMHO, it is simply the best brake fluid. Motul is my second choice.

For your first (Green) DE, fresh OEM fluid and new pads (never use a set of pads once they get to 50%...too much heat transfer to the fluid) should be OK.
Since novice drivers tend to 'overuse' the brake pedal, be aware of how the pedal feels and if it starts to get 'soft' or the throw increases, safely reduce speed and get off the track.

Also, if you are using stock OEM 'cross drilled' rotors, be sure to inspect for cracks between adjoining holes in the rotors. Once a crack joins 2 adjacent holes from a central one, the rotors should not be used on track.

And BTW, don't worry about the grin....it only lasts a couple of weeks after your first event.

The price for the brake parts is with the discount (and that price was with more than 10% discount). No discount on tires (well, they did not invoice me for install and balance).
