Hey Noah, looks great! ^^. Can you weight the OEM rear bumper cover please? I'm trying to get.a good weight comparison vs. the CF cover. I just had mine off but forget to weigh it. The CF one should be 8 lbs. Thx!

Finally got her back together last weekend and was able to take her out for a spin, all is good in the world! Painting all the new parts was tabled for the time being as currently up to my eyeballs deep in house work prior to the snow flying.

The AWE intercoolers fit very well considering that the .2/rs cooler modifications. The biggest pain in the neck was the hoses and clamps and getting everything to fit correctly. She now holds solid boost with no leaks once again.

While I was in there doing the plugs I had noticed this actuator looked odd and decided to order up some new ones. Looks like the prior shop that did all the maintenance on this prior to me buying it welded it back together instead of replacing a $20 part.

So nice to be able to drive it once again with the cool fall weather. Cannot believe it has been almost three months since the last time I drove it.

Sunday offered perfect weather to meet up with some friends for a drive into VT after meeting up at Cars & Coffee at Kringle Candle.

However prior to us leaving at 8am, a quick fix of a cracked tip on the 996 was required. Nothing a few minutes with a welder could not fix.

Markus swung up for the long weekend to lend a hand with some demo work, so tossed him the keys to the 996 to compare vs his wild widebody build and I jumped into the 997. For the fall back roads the 996 still reigns champion with its lighter weight and fun chassis on winding tight mountain roads. The 997 does offer comfort with the heated seats so the girlfriend remains happy with the windows down.

911 Gas station take over! Prior to our run into VT a good fresh fill up on some high test was needed. We then departed along a series of back roads up through Lyden, Gilford, Brattleboro, Wilmington, Colrain, Shelburne and finally back to my place to do some wrenching on Patricks Aerokit 996 to clean the radiators and install some LCA bushings.

Back at the garage some cleaning of the radiators that were packed full and installing the solid rear LCA bushings to prevent some rubbing and to sharpen up the suspension a little bit more.

The day the group of us were out cruising with one of the locals unable to attend I got a text saying he was dead on the side of the highway with coolant pouring out back on his GT3. So a week later he towed it up to my place so we could take a look at it, hoping that it was just a hose failure it took all of 30 seconds to locate the issue.

Well crap...Fitting out of the waterpump housing popped out.

So we debated for a week on what level of a fix to go about, either drop motor and pull manifolds off and weld or re-glue and pin all the fittings. With some nice weather still on hand for a couple more weeks it was decided to re-glue and pin all the rest of the fittings. Overall over the past week and a half it took about 8 hours to do.

Got everything apart without much fuss, but needed to order a 90deg drill adapter and some shorter drills/taps.

While in there did an oil change and discovered whatever shop had prior done the oil changes did not seem to replace the lower o-ring on the filter stem.

Buttoning things up last night it was time to take it for a drive, but regretfully the battery was dead. So got up early this morning to do a shake down run with it.

Overall not a bad job to do on the 997 GT3, the hardest fitting to do was the one under the intake manifold. I used a long 1" wrench to push the hard vacuum hose out of the way while drilling to have more clearance. Tapping this also took some time and patience spread over several nights after work. When he is ready for a new clutch/flywheel setup we will plan to pull the motor and weld new fittings in and get the lower oil cooler 90's then, until that time it is back on the road once again.

Forgot how much fun the GT3 is, sharp and nimble that can almost entirely be driven with throttle and slight steering inputs to rotate, there are times I miss the explosive Saturn V power of a RWD turbo Now have to figure out how to add one of these or a 6-3 to the stable.

2020 turned out to be a wash pretty much when it came to continuing this project, between house work and the pandemic many things got held up. Got the call from Markus at Werk996 that just about all the items had shown up from Germany. So I jumped in the truck and made a little trip to NJ to pick up the new Carbon GT2 bumper, Carbon roof, Carbon Gurney flap and cage setup and seat from one of the Manthey built GT2's.

2020 at least managed to put on about 2000 miles.

Nice! If you need any advice or PN's for the GT2 clutch slave swap let me know. Or if you want to take mine for a spin to try it out. But not for a few more weeks.

Those carbon parts you are installing are absolutely epic my friend. You're not just building a GT2 clone anymore...you're going far deeper down the rabbit hole (in a great way!) than that. Bravo on the build, and looking forward to updates of course.

So many great roads in VT and into NH, it is nice to take a day off work to wander around when there is not the crazy weekend traffic.
