The local PCA chapter was doing a drive on my local roads so decided to join up with a few friends for a cruise through western mass and southern VT. Normally I prefer to drive the 996tt on back roads, however it is still down untill the intercoolers show up some time next month, it was a perfect opportunity to stretch the legs on the 997 Turbo. Being that the suspension and power upgrades make it spot on for lots of back road driving with still maintaining ground clearance, she proved to be up to the challenge with plenty of passing power and grip.

Meeting at the old defunct Friendlys in Ludlow nice and early.

We headed out wandering through several of the larger population centers of W.Mass, then we were able to hit some twisties up but were hung up with several Sunday drivers.

Then we got to our first stop in Charlemont, MA on RT2. The Cold River Cafe is a nice spot for breakfast or lunch right in the shadow of the Berkshire East Ski Mtn.

Haha, yeah that is odd right? I never even saw that! Us poor Porsche owners with our depleted bank accounts

Socialist states like Mass believe you should still have a high standard of living with eating out and getting alcohol at the local shops just like the rest of us tax payers...guess we pay once for ourselves and once for them

Took some time away from house renovations which have seemed to eat up just about every night and weekend to spend some time on the Widowmaker. Inspired by Johns Cup/rsr bumper rebars and having done much of the similar stuff to lighten up the Audi TT, I grabbed one of the beers out of the fridge thanks to Ed (lliejk) and set about to add lightness to the rebars.

Rear stock weight with bumperetts. These will be removed shortly with the Euro Bumper.

10.2lbs with bumperetts and still some more machining to be done.

Update from AWE is that the intercoolers will be finished around the 17th.

By shaving-off some weight, what does that do to the structural integrity of the bumper rebars? Maybe it doesn’t matter for a track car, but certainly would for a street car.

Wait a second...you were only rewarded with 1.4 pounds for all that effort?

I think there is a limit to how much you can shave off of the OEM bumper support. While visually same, the rear RSR bumper support is made out of a substantially thinner material which is where the real weight saving can be found at a weight of 5.68lbs. No matter what, every pound ads up..

I'm more just disappointed for the OP as he went to considerable effort. I was hoping he'd get something like 4-5 pounds for all that swiss cheesing!

Yep, still not done milling it next. Shooting to be around 7-8lbs without the bumperett brackets.

Right on John, being made from the thinner material is going to be hard to match for weight no matter how much I drill out, in combinations to the RSR and also its relief holes of material. Will be good for those that think they can hit the same target weight as the RSR ones. Granted this only costs some time in the garage on the Bridgeport, not cost effective if wanting to have a machine shop do it.

Yeah it did not take out a ton of weight, but there still is a good amount left to the it.

More weight savings are had with some of the new body parts.
