Flooded in Houston

And what evidence do you have to indicate that this car may not be a good value if it goes for under half its book value assuming no damage?
Anything can be fixed. I truly do not understand the mentality of people who think "wet = ruined". It makes me think that they themselves may have not bothered to learn any repair skills and would find themselves hopelessly over their heads if they were to end up in such a situation.
I hold firm to the belief that anything man can make, can be broken, and anything that can be broken can be fixed properly. The effort and cost involved is the only factor of importance. And the more skills I have, the more tools I know how to use, the better.
I repair wristwatches, cell phones (professionally), and have been tearing apart and fixing electronic and mechanical items my whole life. Including cars. A submerged car doesn't scare me in the slightest.

The problem with restoring a flood damaged car, especially something exotic and expensive like a Porsche Turbo, is that the parts alone are insanely expensive. As you point out, almost anything can be repaired, given the will, the resources, and the time. There is, however, a balance between the time and money expended vs. the value received in the end for that money and effort.
What people here are trying to tell you is that although you may be able to fix a car like this, it would not be worth it to them to attempt that, and the effort would produce a poor value in return. Your calculation on this may differ from ours, and if you do embark on such an effort, I am sure that all of us commenting in this thread would wish you the best of luck.

How can that be real? Intercoolers, windows, wheels, worth way more than that. Headlights look like non-turbo variety (vertical lines vs smooth).......??????

I've never heard of Dad's Classic Cars website. I see the photos are water marked with IAA which is an insurance salvage yard. I went to their site and cannot find this car at all. Any more info? It doesn't seem like it's a real/correct ad.

That says car is in Houston where prior ad listed a Miami yard. Nevertheless, TX was pretty bad, that's a flood over the full door/dash most likely, mold is visible in pics. Lots of $$ to get right.

That VIN shows a 2005 Turbo S, optioned with the GT3 wheels, etc. If it was close by I would be tempted to pick it up for spare parts & tinkering, eBaying, etc.

I'm guessing that price of $1,954 was a cached price while the online auction was still going up.
Like when people see an eBay auction and say that's a good price, and my response is. It's auction it's got 5 more days. Price will go up!

For 2K I'd buy it. Yeah, yeah, I know, it may be a million labor hours to get it back up and running right and many dollars later, too.
But for 2K I could afford that gamble, even though I'm pretty poor at the moment.

That is absolutely my car. Had just installed those non-turbo lights while restoring my originals when the flood hit.

I never got a photo of car at max water level because it happened overnight. I think it was approx 3 in higher than the 1st photo in this thread. I believe the turbos were submerged, but not sure about the engine/trans.

If the car is really where the ad says it is, and really being offered at the asking price, then I've got the real angel on one shoulder, devil on the other situation to contend with.
Because that's only a few hours drive from me if it's really in north Miami.
I would certainly be inclined to take a chance for just 2K. I know that if it just was too much for me I could part it out for more than that.
But, I almost hate to admit it, recent circumstances have left me with so little in the way of discretionary funds that even at that incredible price it's a stretch. One I'm not sure I can actually make.
Yeah, 2 grand is a lot of money for me right now. But that's only because I am not going to exceed what I've set aside in my "fun money" pool. I could tap a credit card. But I won't. I could dip into savings or an investment account. But I won't. I consider the budgetary limits I set for myself to be sacred things.
