i agree. the reason i looked into the auction specs was because of not hitting a reserve at just $68k. I assume a deal was likely made around $70k. as noted, front and rear damage on carfax and both were repaired and painted. front and back suggests a traffic accident and then it's detective work from there. who knows if it was a steal or not. i'd lean towards a good buy, depending on what you wanted from the car.

Agree. Love your stable by the way. Which one is the most "fun" to drive (all things considered?). I'd love to add a 964 someday! Miss my sc but wouldn't mind a 3.6 in the back!

Is that yellow one formerly @cgfen 's? Interesting that there are so many SY GT3s in the Greater LA region (well, 3 that I know of).

So I sold my car in May 2018 w 47k miles, my buyer sold the car again in late 2019/Jan 2020. The car resides in Iowa. It’s a 2005 Arctic silver with about 50-55k miles. I tracked it but also did extensive maintenance.
that being said, I suspect it needs a bottom end and possible top end rebuild. I dropped engine in 2012 and replaced all hoses, expansion tank, coils, welded lines etc. clutch is still original I suspect.
But it means all rubber is 9/10 years old and could use a refresh again.

Car is in very good condition and was not crashed before me, by me nor by-next buyer so all panels original. Sits on Ohlin adjustable dampers when I sold it.

anyway, car may come on the market and I could be interested in buying it. I think these cars are great at $50-60k, I would buy at 75-80 but above that, it above that there are many other cars that could be unique and interesting for me to buy, ex M4 GTS. . I see the yellow above is listed for $105k but in all honestly, what do you guys think here is a realistic buying price for these cars in good conditions and with an age that require serious maintenance to be driven hard.

I have been paying very close attention all year. I will be surprised if this yellow one doesn't sell within a week. In case you have not been shopping in the past 6 months, all car prices are way up.

There are no M-cars worth buying after the 1M/Z4C. At least for the purpose of owning a sports car. Grand tourer? Sure.

My 6 GT3 was exceptionally good.
I would not buy it back for $105K, but I suspect many other people would.
My car when sold required $0 for maintenance.
The market is fluid but prices are certainly going up

be well.

105k seems like a good deal for a "special color" enthusiast owned car. And yellow really pops on the 996's, so that is a huge plus in my book. I get unsolicited offers for my car from time to time by folks seeking a "driver" for a good deal, and my response is always the same. Basically, I say that I'd have to ask enough so that it would permit me to go out and immediately find a replacement gt3 in a cool color, do all the mods and preventative maintenance I have performed on mine, and provide me a little extra for all my labor and lost time. In other words, the price wouldn't be remotely reasonable (I figure if someone offered me 150k I still might balk, because it would be pretty hard to replace my "storied" car even at that price, given that I'd want to find a replacement and then add all the same goodies which in my mind increase the value and enjoyment of my car so much (lwfw and clutch (3k), rebuilt/re-geared transmission (25k), 997 exhaust set up (3k ish for used parts if you are lucky), plenum and tb, cage (1,200), perlon seats (7k to replace?), pinned lines (5k job), two sets of wheels, etc..., etc....). I like the car that much, and they are simply getting too hard to replace given the low numbers in North America (less than 1,000?) and fact that many have either: 1) found "forever homes" in vast collections or with owners who recognize how good they are as an all-purpose exciting sports car; or (2) been gutted/wrecked/sent overseas with Snaveed LOL! It may take some time, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if these eventually went the way of 1973 carrera rs cars in terms of value/desirability (I think there were more of them produced then 996 gt3s!).

Buy now or perhaps be forced to forever hold your peace. I've been lusting over 997.1 gt2's for years, thinking that this year might be the year to pull the trigger. Guess what, I waited to long...the days of ANY 997.1 gt2 going under 200k are looooong gone I fear, and folks now asking 300-400k for non rs cars! You snooze you lose!
