Thanks guys, yes, the previous owner of the RS decided to take the 6-3 and some cash. I had sold my Spyder last week, so in essence, it was a swap, 2 for 1👍 I now need to change my avatar pic 🤓

Thanks Chad. I heard you snagged Koans car. Nice, and Congrats to you👍

Related to your RS, have you ever considered re gearing yours? I’m hearing the gears are tall and really benefit from tighter ratio’s.

Hi Chris. I like the gearing in the RS and haven't considered regearing it unless I end up doing a transmission rebuild at some point.

Andrew,
in a nutshell - you nail it.
my .02 - I have owned the 996, and now own the 991.2 GT3. 996 - hands down much more "active" on track. Have to agree with you 100%. However, it's a trial to use as a daily driver. Noisy, old tech, can't talk on the phone. etc... Also, I don't really dig the front of the 996, like I do the 997's and 991's. The 991.2 much more civilized, and easy to drive. Powerful and fun - it is not as "sharp" as the 996 was/is. Of course the $$$$$ value is easy to see. 996 all the way. That being said, would I take the 996 or the 991? For me the 991. Just like it better all around.

.
.
  • Driver engagement and price: 996 GT3. Hands down. Every ride I take with the 6-3 is a memorable event. With the steering wheel twitching in your hand, having to row your own gears, and the knowledge that you are the only thing keeping the back end from spinning around, I find myself having to engage 100% of my brain. The 991 gt3 is a comparatively relaxed experience and only dials up in engagement as you push it to the limit--but even then it's much less butt clenching than the 6-3 (for better or worse). The only edge the 991 GT3 has on the 6-3 from an engagement perspective is the engine note. IMO it's only second to the Lexus LFA when it comes to best sounding cars of all time. From my understanding, the 997.1 GT3 RS is a very similar driving experience to a well set up 6-3. Only reason to upgrade imo is if you think the looks are worth the 2-3x premium (which is completely valid). If you are going to pay more because you want to go faster on the track, should go with 991 gt3.
  • Driver engagement and looks: 997.1 GT3 RS. I think the 997.1 GT3 RS will go down as the most beautiful modern Porsche of all time. Still has the raw analog feel of the 6-3, just dialed up another notch in the performance area from what I hear (haven't driven one yet). In pumpkin or green it will be worth huge $$$ in the near future (and will certainly hold its value better than the 991 GT3s of any spec given the rarity)
  • Speed and looks: 991.1 GT3. It's a modern supercar and didn't feel that far off from the McLaren that I drove that same day. I also think the 991.1 GT3 is a great looking car, better in fact that then 991.2 GT3 or GT3 RS which look a bit too busy or bloated to me

Great thread - my 3 cents - i own a 04 6GT3 as my track car and a 991.2 GT3 for the street. I enjoy both but i do feel they have difference purposes as the GT models have evolved. I bought the 6GT3 as i wanted an analog raw experience and wow it gives me that and every track sessions is a blast - i rebuilt the motor to a 3.8 so its powerful enough to compete with some much newer machinery.

The 991.2 GT3 is not as raw, in fact its quite civilized which seems a strange thing to say but you could drive it to work everyday and enjoy it. It took a while to grow on me but i now enjoy it too. You may not get to experience the upper rev range on your commute but when you do its a WOW! The metzger motor in the 6GT3 is special but i have to say the new 991 GT3 motors rev so cleanly and sound amazing and with the 991.1 you get that long engine warranty too.

Conclusion for me - it depends on your purpose for the car. the 6GT3 makes a quite cost effective track weapon and a fun drive at weekends but the 991 GT3 wins for street car as it usable every day. Not sure if this sways the balance but my wife drives and enjoys the 991 GT3 but would never drive the 6GT3.....

That's exactly what I like about my 6-GT3—it's a phone-free zone!

Originally, a 911 was meant for that job. But as newer 911’s have turned into sedans, the newer GT3’s have turned into what 911 used to be. The 6gt3 was not meant to be either of those. Sipped on special occasions, like a single malt — get all your senses shaken and stirred for 1-2hrs/week on backroads, then give it a rest until the next rendezvous.

Ya, as I get to know the RS, The 6-3 is the Dominatrix where the RS is the refined and pricey Call Girl. Both have their place and time. As a 60 year old man, the latter now squeezes me 😁

Haha, I totally agree. My buddy is turning 60, and in his birthday Vid that I sent him, I said exactly that.

My GF is 41, so she keeps me young. I’m cool with 45🤣
