Sorry to interrupt a good flame war, but did somebody drop the transmission and have a look at the bearing?

Should be obvious if it is still the original one, no?

hey Squid,

The IMS is part of the twisted equation in the story. Apparently, KK (from Texas) did the IMS replacement himself while posting step-by-step pictures of the progress. He later sold the car to the OP of this thread who experienced catastrophic engine failure related to the IMS. The debate seems to center on if the OP has a legal case against KK even though the OP has owned the 996 for quite a while. The debate went back and forth for some time. Provided a good bit of entertainment for the forum. ha!

It's been a while since I've read through this whole thread but I don't think there's any question the OP's car did NOT have the original bearing -- although someone will quickly correct me if I'm mistaken.

It's more than that. He actually made his own IMSB at home, from parts he cobbled together from various sources. That's the real issue.

It was obvious the thread became a "KK roast", but I thought the issue was two fold - First, did the OP have any legal retribution against KK because he sold the car with a shady DIY IMS replacement to the OP. Or, since the car was sold as-is and the OP owned the car for many months, he would just have to swallow the loss of $$ as do most buyers when they purchase a used car as-is without any type of warranty or DOA agreement.

Don't forget KK then tried to develop his own kit and tried to do a joint venture with Pelican parts to sell it. Glad that one never materialized.

IIRC, without re-reading the entire thread, one big issue is mis-representation. It was sold with the belief that it had a specific IMSB replacement and in fact it did not, rather one "created " by KK

I think you nailed it. It has nothing to do with warranty or lack of.

That is the way I understood it. What I am saying is did anybody make sure that the IMS is not the original Porsche IMSB?

I wouldn't take that for granted.

Also, which IMSB was supposed to be put in there? Used from Ebay?
