Beautiful engine, looks like you are completely done now with this complete engine rebuild, even better than new from Porsche :-) Amazing work, you did on this engine... Now you should put this brand new engine in your own 996 and enjoy it, heh heh heh, cheers.

Made a jumper switch to plug into the fuel relay socket to drain the 2yr old gas. Works like a charm. I also monitored the fuel level in real-time via durametric. Pretty cool.

Good plan to drain & refill the fuel .I also changed the filter.

Future rebuilders will be grateful for the hi-res photos because they show where all the hoses and wires should go.I had to resort to looking at photos on EBay of used M96 engines for sale ! You have done the M96 community a great service Duncan. Thank you !

Ideally but on MkII 996's the fuel filter is part of the fuel pump so unless I change out the fuel pump...

8 hours work on a new cylinder head ? They must have some small amount of Raby DNA?

That engine is a piece of art...at least the m96 shares the same oil pressure sensor, which is crap btw

It's alive!!
Using the technique Jake described. You can see the oil pressure build up crank after crank. It took only 3 seconds of cranking to get the engine started, compared to the normal 2s so it's not bad.
