Default Engine Case Cleaned

See all the metal shavings? The cases came with a yellow tag saying you must clean the case thoroughly.

Metal shavings (expected).

I shine a light on the coolant return path. You can see the 3 holes where the coolant flows up from the cylinders and returns to the water pump.

It's beautiful! So shiny. The Nickies look really solid. When does it start going back together?

And thanks for showing everyone what you get from the good old USA for your money, I wonder how it compares to work from Poland?

Can we not drag that in here please? This is an awesome and detailed thread and would suck to get it interrupted with 5-10 pages of Martin vs Jake.

I wonder what it would take to get Martin and Kibort soapboxing in the same thread. After the latter is back from a ban of course. But you are right, it would be vandalism to have it happen here.

The next stage is filing and fitting the rings. Hope to be able to start assembly in June.

My bench came like that. It's some sort of anti-slip plastic coating. I like it.
Stock photos of the set I got:

Default Ring gapping

Time consuming but it's actually quite fun. I'm just doing some preliminary checking today so no ring grinding yet.

You paid attention in class to my 72 degree rule when doing measurements... It needs to be at 72 for 24 hours to normalize completely!

Yes but being in the garage there would be some variation in a 24 hr window. I just want to get a feel and some reading today. Will bring the case inside the house and Set the thermo to 72F.

Default Fish scale pulling the oil rings

Piston inserted upside down.

Oil rings only. Piston, rings, and cylinder fully lubricated

The scale I use. Works like a charm.

From left to right: oil rings, 2nd ring, top ring.

Btw, despite the high quality rings, one of the top rings have burrs on its ends that would have scratched the bore. I deburred it and it's fine. Got to be really careful.
