VitaminC, Tip or 6spd? Can't say I have a strong preference one way or another. Just looking for a sold daily driver. I can see pluses to both, but with a Tip my wife is likely to drive it, which could mean we get a second Porsche if she likes it.
Hi guys, I'm new to Rennlist, have been on Pelican on and off over the years, but recently started searching for a 996 since the air cooled cars have really taken off on price. I have a disassembled 912 in the basement that probably won't see the open road for several years. The 996 seems to be a tremendous value (the new 74 -76 2.7L), and something I can drive and enjoy today! Wanted to know if anyone has looked at this car, or know anything about it? I'm interested, but price seems low and I'm located in NJ, so no chance of seeing it in person.
Hey Man, this looks like a nice P-Car, but bare in mind is the one fewest optioned 996s I've seen.
For example,
1. Non-projector (i.e. optic lens) headlights
2. base 17" wheels
3. no sports exhaust
4. no PSM
5. base non-HiFi (i.e. Cassette) stereo system
Of course, it's tiptronic which would be a great daily driver, but maybe not the best if you plan to resell it in a few years. Most of the folks want manual tranny. But I'd also consider it cause my wife doesn't like to fool with manual anymore.
Overall, a clear '99 but just know what you're getting before making the plunge.

Wow, I have seen comments on sagging exhaust tips but this seems to be the lowest hanging engine I have ever seen! Could use some new engine mounts. Just makes you wonder about the state of maintenance of the rest of the car... You should be able to find some fresher looking cars around your neck of the woods.
I am very curious about the New Haven CT 996. Not that I am in the market but... It is close to me...
Why did it sit for two years?
It seems odd they mention that you can't even buy a "rebuildable" car at this price.
At $11,000 that leaves a good amount of money to get it running, do the IMS/RMS, clutch, fluids flush, etc... Unless you get into major issues with the motor. Again, why has it not been driven in two years?

Rest assurred it didn't sit for two years because he loves his benz so much. And rest assurred two years sitting has made whatever caused it to be parked worse. So unless the owners brings it back to running condition and you thoroughly inspect it prior to purchase, to me this a dangerous buy.
also I was shopping starting in February and bought at the end of March. A lot of cars I saw are still for sale now. These cars are sitting in dealer lots too long and that makes buying from an enthusiast that takes care of maintenance and other issues far more valuable.
That said had had more of the cars I originally looked at been priced what they are today, I'd probably have driven more of them and made offers. It's sad because I missed out on a millennium edition and they probably missed a great shot at a sale as a result..... car is still for sale but for about 10% less now. But has sitting 4 or 5 more months helped?
And people say I'm crazy for wanting to mod my 996. I guarantee I will have a better looking, faster, and more valuable car when I'm done for less when compared to that green machine.
