Simple facts. Note I specified 'low mileage' as a qualifier, not high miles, no-records beaters. A local dealer has been buying up, servicing, and selling low mile 996s as fast as they can find them. And look at how many have been listed on BAT lately. It's a simple factor of demand.

To be clear, all I'm saying is that a nice, under 100K 996.2 has gone from high teens to low twenties. I'm not saying they are suddenly valuable, or even good investments. But the stigma is fading and demand is high. Prices are rising for good 996s - whether the Rennlist 996 discussion board likes it or not.

Sold for how much? Just cause they are asking high prices does not mean that's what they're are selling for...

Hi RPM... I appreciate your enthusiasm and optimism for the Porsche 996. I used to feel like you do about their potential, but the reality is that any 996 with the M96 motor is continuing to depreciate. The ones that hold their value are the Mezger based models like the GT3, Turbo, etc. I'm afraid the poor reputation of the M96 motor has tarnished the resell on these vehicles.


Here's a 5-year graph of the 2002 base Carrera. Then, look at the lower graph on the GT3. What difference do you notice???

I'll try his one more time... I never said 'all 996s.' I specifically said low mileage 996s (under 100, preferably 80k) in good condition are dropping in availablily and rising in value.

And I see the Hagerty trend lines and simply ask, how many data points do they have?

We all heard you loud and clear Ralph. We appreciate your enthusiasm, but I respectfully disagree. I wish it weren't true, but if you look at the graph again, you'll notice even concours grade 996 Carreras have dipped in value. Your average 996 Carreras (like what you speak about), have dropped more than $2,500 on average in the last 5 year period.

No reason to get offended because some of us have a different opinion on the subject.

I thought I remember seeing this dealership. Here's a decent example of what I'm saying. Here is a nice, low miles (68K) base mk1 Carrera for $19,999 that's been sitting on their lot for more than 6 months, maybe longer. (see "days on CarGurus") Not exactly "selling low mile 996s as fast as they can find them". IMHO, it's mostly wishful thinking IMHO.

As much as I like my 996 and as much as I wish it were true, the 996 is still depreciating. With the exception of GT3's and Turbo's, it's a mass-produced, production used car. There are always the occasional outliers and exceptions , but they're just not appreciating. Hopefully they're close to the bottom of the depreciation curve, but I wouldn't be surprised to see several more years of gradual depreciation.

Drive them and enjoy them!
