Hey guys- I am a complete novice when it comes to stereos and wiring. Looking to install the single din PCRN(?) HU along with the GT3 console delete in my 2003 C4S. Accordingly this thread (https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...-in-996-a.html) the PCRN HU is compatible with the 996 but not a 996 with MOST (my C4S has Bose MOST system).

Is it possible to use the solution provided by the Boxster forum, MOST adaptor, etc. or could I also rewire the system to get the PCRN HU to work? Really open to all options, and I have read a bunch of threads, but haven't been able to find or understand a solution.

Thanks!

I run a Sony carplay 2DIN in the 996 Turbo, but I just installed this on recently acquired 930, very happy with it other than it is arguably overpriced at about $500. Uses standard DIN wiring connectors for a super easy install, short chassis. Perhaps a bit more '90's in styling than 2000's for a 996 Turbo, but far more 'correct' looking than most modern aftermarket 1DIN head units. Nice build quality, seems to have decent audio quality as well.

Looks great! This might be a single din solution for my 996. Does this unit have an integrated amp? In other words, could I bypass my Bose amp? Not likely, but I'm still looking for a simpler solution. Thanks.

I got in touch with the seller, and apparently my unit does not come with an SD card slot. Why on earth they have a button marked SD and an opening, is beyond me. But according to the description on Aliexpress, it says "TF/Micro SD slot: 0".

So which one does? Is there a range topper.

The version that this is based on, i.e. the one made for the 987/997 Porsches.

These start as a 4 core 1 GB RAM 32 GB ROM (Don't get that one!!) and go all the way up to an 8 core 8 GB RAM 256 GB ROM.

I purchased a 996.1 with the base stereo. The previous owner installed a Continental Head Unit in order to stream Bluetooth. I'm in shock how low quality the stereo is. A modern Toyota Corolla sounds better.

Looking for better mids and highs. Would replacing the dash and rear speakers be worthwhile upgrade? There is an amplifier in the frunk that appears OEM and outdated.

Yes, it has a built-in 4-channel amp, plus four channels of high-impedance RCA outputs for either converting for use with the MOST bus or a separate amplifier. Integrating to the MOST is fairly easy with a third party Most Bus converter.

I think bypassing the Bose/Most amplifier requires some additional work... 1. running the speaker wires to the radio instead of the frunk were the most amp lives (or just running new speker wires), and 2. I think replacing the actual drivers, as I believe the Bose speaker drivers are really designed specifically for the Bose amp, not really general purpose spekers.

Not that Bose gear is the greatest thing, but using the head unit amp and bypassing the Bose amp would like be buying Air Jordan’s and covering them with galoshes.

I don't disagree with you. I'm pretty happy with the Bose sound as is. I'm not sure of my wiring skills (I have some), and I've been hard pressed to find a shop that has a track record of integrating the MOST format. Oh well, I'll keep looking. In the meantime, my 996 makes good noises on its own. 8 )
