good thing you mentioned color, I zipped right over that

it looks like GT Silver - but it could just be the lighting

Hi Steve,

You may have discussed it elsewhere, but it would be so great if you could share how you've maintained this car and things you've replaced etc.

For example:
1. oil/fluid service intervals - type/brand (transmission, steering, coolant, and engine)
2. any replacement and amount of engine parts - water pump, alternator, coolant expansion tank, AC compressor, belts, batteries, brakes, vacuum hoses, etc.
3. engine/transmission out services - clutch, flywheel, IMS bearing, RMS, AOS, chain wear pads, etc. (any full rebuilds???)
4. any interior part failures and replacements
5. cosmetics - paint, headlight renewal, etc.

This would be so beneficial to the 996 community.

Thank you.

p.s. congrats on the 430K milestone!

Personally, I doubt it is a 40th Anniversary.

Another way to check is the engine serial number. It should begin with M96/03S66... The "S" signifies it is an X51 motor.

I’m 99% sure it’s misrepresentation but could this be a AE?

No front spoiler

No badge
This is not so uncommon mistake with dealers. I've seen it many times. If the car is a 2004 model, they'll say "40th anniversary".

But the 40th AE is a special car. X51 M9X engine, turbo front bumper, larger rads, GT3 side skirts, special silver paint, unique serial plates on center console, special "911" rear emblem, etc.

On the down side, the 40th AE is still subject to cylinder bore scoring and IMS bearing failure. Why? Even though the Mezger Turbo and GT model used Nikasil bores and a plain bearing, Porsche decided to modify a standard M9X engine which meant the 6204 single row bearing and Lokasil bores. Unfortunately, not the same durability/performance level as the Mezger siblings, but a very rare package from Porsche.

got a link ? or a VIN
- No silver gauge ring surrounds
- Incorrect shifter
- Non perforated steering wheel
- Not full leather

This car is not an anniversary.

Hi all,
I didn't think it was a 40AE based on all of the above. No badges etc... also the seller has refused to provide a VIN which makes me think know he is a shonk!
In any case we are all looking for that illusive car!

Nicholas.

I bought my 40th Anniversary Edition, sight unseen with a Non-Invasive (no bore scope) PPI and original IMS. 1 big service bill (IMS/RMS/Clutch etc.) 3 years and 10k miles later the smiles keep coming. Most purchases are not the nightmare fear mongering situations that some on this board would like to be the reality. Find the best one out there with the best service history you can find and don't look back. Otherwise you're going to spend all that time searching or finding an excuse as to why you shouldn't, while instead you could be out driving and enjoying.

Curious, what tire sizes are people running on the stock wheels that came on the car? Stock sizing looks to be 225/40ZR18 front and 285/30ZR18 rear but options are very slim. I think going up to 295/30ZR18 should be ok and that opens up the options a bit. What about the front? Any issues going to 235?

Never thought I would say this as I always enjoy the hunt for the newest “best” tires. That said, go with the Michelin PS2. It is Porsche N rated, is the correct size tire, and I think it is overall the best tire I have driven.

I went with 235 and 295 rears and have a 5mm spacers and the tires are great and fit the car well. I also stuck with the Michelin PS2

Thanks Gents. This might be for a possible car I may purchase and will get the PS2 down the road but for now might need something slightly less $ and want to open up some options. Do you think there would be any rubbing without the spacers?

I am going to say something hard, not personal. If you can’t afford the tires, you can’t afford the car.

Hah no taking it personally! On my for not being more clear... Being in the DC area I'd rather have a all season set to run during winter and get PS2s for when spring rolls around again. I plan to drive the car all year round.
