Good writeup, Ed. I have to admit that I'm surprised about the rattles you mention. My 911 has very few rattles, if any.

Get your suspension rebuilt with stiffer torsion bars and shocks, lower it a bit, get an aggressive alignment and you'll be surprised at the cart-like turn-in.

Buy a good aftermarket muffler, ditch the Cat, pick up a Steve Wong chip and feel the engine come alive!

update - new motor and tranny mounts in and the new shift coupler. as for rattles i have one, but its a whopper! something in the rear pass side torsion tube - re-torqued all the bolts and will look later...

its official though, the 86 is more useful than the 996 - see pics !!

cant do that with a 996 !

Maybe he added a second engine so he'd have as much power as a 996?

The Redhook brewery is about 5 miles from my home, glad you are keeping them in business Ed. Drink more beer...the rattle will disappear!

I want an air-cooled 911 really bad, but not to replace my 996 but to supplement it instead. Since I use my car daily and I NEED working A/C, driving a 911 daily in traffic would be more of a challenge than I want to put up right now.

But I remember test driving a 964 and just loving the sounds and smells of that car...I talked about it for hours after the drive.

Keep us posted on your car's status!

I think those are universal problems... I have yet to meet a car enthusiast who felt he/she has either enough money or space.
