There are pictures of a 928 parked next to a 991 and the 928 looks smaller.

I had a good one today.... went to my favorite gun shop/firing range to buy a new toy. While loading up in the parking lot an old guy comes over to compliment my car - positively raving about how great it looked and how he once drove (what I'm guessing was a 993 from his comments) and how amazing it was to drive - he even made the comment that a car like a 911 doesn't need cup holders because you're focused on driving. We must have chatted for 20 minutes or so. He was astounded to hear that my "amazing" car was 12 years old and had 73K miles on it - he said it looked like new. Even commented that he would be shocked if he could buy anything like it for less than $30K... I told him that I wished that were true, but he could probably pick one up in the $20-$25K range. Anyways, he follows me out of the parking lot to listen to my exhaust note for a while.

When I returned to my neighborhood I wound down my window and as I pulled onto my street had two young skateboarding kids should "cool car!" as I passed by - I returned with a "Thanks!" and a wave.

It's nice to have a day like today.

great that a stranger will talk to you for 20 minutes - I think these cars could actually create world peace

inner peace if nothing else
I had a DE Saturday of epic proportions:

I had a rider to the track 1.5 hrs away. He is a photographer and suffered an injury so no driving - we talked all the way to the track, great guy - has done a lot of car things including some of those crazy road rallies like the gumball

I drove in almost every session for the day either in my car with a passenger, a students car (997S) or in the passenger seat helping out - by lunch I was almost ill from motion sickness

The track was being used by the World Rally guys as a staging ground and in the afternoon we gave 4 lap rides to the rally volunteers - there must have been a 1000 or more spectators so we were busy keeping tabs on everything

I scored a poster signed to my kids and a picture with Ken Block

He didnt see my car or I am sure he would have been impressed (LOL)

the last rider of the day was a young guy sub 20 I would guess and I gave him a pretty spirited run because the track owner in his track rat 993 was on my tail...we played some cat and mouse and in the advance run group allow passing anywhere/any side so I pointed him by in a long sweeping left hander which meant we ran side by side with me in the marbles on the outside...really really FUN and that kid got out and thanked me like 10 times saying he always dreamed of being in a car going fast...and was surprised that the corner speeds were higher than he had ever gone even straight

I had to reel him in a bit to keep his head from thinking about doing these things on the street and invited him back for some instruction to any of our events - hope he gets the hook sunk real deep, seemed like a cool kid

anyhow on the way home by myself at 9:00 pm I was cruising the highway and just saying - this is the best car I have ever owned - I love this car - and I love driving it!!

Driving to the airport yesterday....nice sunny day. Came up on a triple black 996 CS4 cab, top down, temporary tag on the back. Guy & his girl tooling down the road....still in exalted honeymoon mode with the car. So for the moment, he looked liked he was King of the World.

For a moment I thought of holding up a sigh with ims on it.

nah. Let him enjoy the moment. :-)

I pulled into the grocery store lot the other day just as a 2012 Cayman pulled in. He parked farther out in the lot (don't we all) and I pulled in next to him. He smiled and jumped out and started giving me compliments on my 99 cabrio. I bet we talked for 45 minutes. Exchanged contact info and will meet again on the track pretty soon. Great guy. Great camaraderie.

I flew to Detroit two days ago to pick up my new [to me] 2003 996 cab. Owner picks me up at luggage and he suggests I drive it over to the cell lot where we can do the paper work, he can jump in his wife's car and head home, I can jump in the P-car and head for Charlotte. I don't get 1/4 mile away from the airport and I get a speeding ticket!!! Owner's wife could see the cop in action from the cell lot. She witnessed four tickets...two Mercedes, one Lexus and me!! Guess we were feeding the local economy. And, by the way, no way in hell was I going 58 in a 45...

Regardless of what is said and read here and elsewhere, 996s still get love from the public.

I had my car at Myrtle Beach for the past week so it's filthy with bugs, road grime, rain spots, and brake dust. But even so I had two comments today about how beautiful my car was - including one from a guy yelling across the street as I just started to drive away from a traffic signal that just turned green.

So forget about the internal fighting regarding headlights or lack of bulging rear fenders, the public still appreciates these cars and even at 10 years old and 120k+ miles mine still gets the thumbs up from appreciative observers.

Just figured I'd share since forums tend to only be filled with the negative experiences associated with ownership.

Porsches around here are a dime a dozen, but last night, I was out with the top down on the West Side of Phoenix stopped at a light. A guy my age pulls up to me driving an older honda with a friend in the car and rolls the window down, looks over and says, "Wanna go?". I said, "Excuse me?" He has this real serious look on his face and says, "Wanna go? Next light. Wanna Go?". I realize he wants to race. So I look up the road and say back to him, "Sure. Do you want to go?". He starts laughing and says, "No. Not really. But I love your car!" We all start laughing and as the light turned green, we both went our way (at a normal speed), but I made sure he stayed out front. Encounters like these are just another joy of Porsche ownership.

Ivangene the track looks pretty fun but wow....

Talk about zero space for error. I bet tonnes of cars get wrecked there every year.

up here in Elk Snort where it rains a lot and the track gets covered in moss - we learn to drive right on the edge - I hit every PCA DE this year - happy to report NO incidents!

a couple mechanical's, a few cars plowing the fields, but no cars suffering any damage -

if you read "excellence" my buddy Jeff Barstow took top ranked spot at the national Auto X - this track produces great driver - ever read "the art of racing in the rain" same track
