I just saw a GT-R in San Diego: possibly a press car? There were 2 350Z's following close behind. Watch for that article in MT or RandT!!

I don't doubt the car is fast, but I think we should really study the fact that the initial press released cars are not what they really are. I remember back when the turbo Supra came out and they were as fast as most super cars in the quarter mile. What happened over time it seems that true showroom cars were actually slower by 1/2 a second in other road test. My point is that the Skyline is very fast, but the intial test results may be due to a tuned car with proper set up. The fact remains that the car is as fast as any performance car at a lower cost. The negative of the car is the looks and driving experience. LA Times author Dan Neil wrote that the car is extremely fast with no soul and a lack of fun. I personally feel its a great engineering accomplishment, but it not something I desire to own. A few fast laps I would take up that offer.

Also, "proving" that the early cars are ringers because there are rumors that Toyota did that 1.5 decades ago means...nothing.

It's just an expression. It means character, idiosyncrasy, maybe a bit of history, stuff like that. Some cars have it. Most don't. Some of us are willing to pay for it, even.
If you aren't, and if you're really just about *****-out speed, you probably have the wrong car. I think the GTR is a legitimate supercar. But, to my taste, it looks like the box it came in and I bet it would be as much of a yawn to drive as every other fast Japanese car I've ever driven was. Just me.
