Default xenon headlight washer nozzle replacement

I did a search, and was frankly surprised that there weren't more posts on this ubject.

The silver discs that cover up the headlight washers on my 2002 Carrera *both* flew off at speed on a trip across the country. My dad was driving, I wasn't there, but he wouldn't have been going more than 80 mph, not my dad. He says he accidentally hit the headlight washers and first one and later the other just flew off.

Anyway - I have two new ones coming, and of course you can't just buy the chrome bits, you have to buy the whole nozzle.

Has anyone here ever replaced these? What's the procedure? A corollary question is how do I disable the headlight washers?...because really how freaking dirty do these get?

Mine came off (1) at speed during accidental activation. Dealer replaced the silver bit (I think) for free. Apparently it is a common problem and in my case I try not to use the feature.

Damn jasper, you have bad luck just like me. When I picked up my car for the first time, just as we got on the highway, not even doing 30mph yet, and i accidently hit the washer. Bye bye cover

I can tell you that you just can't buy the cover, you have to buy the whole assembly washer assembly. Pelican parts has it. Once I got the new unit, I just replaced the cover without taking the rest off. Wasn't cheap though, then again is any Porsche part cheap

Thanks Tim - that does help, at leastto figure out how to disable the system. I think disconnecting the pump is the way to go. It looks like the water pressure is what extends the nozzle out. Any idea where that pump is loctated? Also...for anyone reading this in the future, I will be trying to back flush the washer fluid out of the system before I disable it. My experience with another washer system is that washer fluid left alone for ten years will turn into a gel.

Replacing a missing cap should (in my theory) be easy. Can you pull the nozzle out without disconnecting it. In other words, pull it out to the position where it operates. If so, you should be able to snap the new cap in place. You probably had to buy the cap attached to a new nozzle so carefully unsnap it from the new nozzle. This method should be able to be done without taking anything apart.

Well that's a question I have - Can I simply pull on the existing nozzle to extend it without breaking anything? I don't see any springs in the drawing so how does the nozzle retract? If it's geared in any way I could do some damage by yanking it.

So I am having a 3D printing company engineer a prototype and produce the caps for me from ABS plastic.

Once the prototype is complete and tested for fitment I will be offering the parts for sale (left or right).

Let me know if you are interested in some new caps for your 996.
