Yeh, I guess that's my next plan of action.
It's a pain in my *** that my factory PSE can failed after only 3 years/ 20k miles.

djantlive,
clearly not done as most of us have done it on the 02+ cans. the issue here would be what sizes are the holes cut into the can, did they make both 1.5 inches or larger.
properly done there is alot more low frequency rumble (noticible at idle easily) and higher end raspiness.
I don't trust shops for much unless I can watch them do it, so I just did it myself.

Here's a picture of the actual size of the hole I had cut into the muffler. As you can see, the hole is almost the size of the 2 1/4 inch stainless pipe...I think Darin actually just cut off the entire cap from the muffler....so if yours was a smaller hole, it might have affected the sound and detracted from the full potential of the modification.

I'll bet that what happened is that your mufflers folks wanted to leave enough room around the rim to weld the pipe to, so they made the hole smaller, possibly on both ends....that's a mistake....have them re-do it and make the hole almost the same size as the pipe. Don't waste a good set of 3.6L mufflers!! If they're good welders, they can match up the hole so it's about the same size as the pipe....then I'd almost guarantee you'll get what you're looking (listening) for.

maybe that's what happened but i'm not going to redo it. Too much work to do it again. I'll have to compare it with one's 02-04 996 side by side some day.

I used 2.25 pipe. I was surprised how quiet it was compared to stock. Not much change in sound below 3k rpm. Above 3k, the noise is a little more obvious, maybe 15-20% louder and slightly more transparent.

Honestly, I was a little disappointed at the result. Even though I didn't pay much ($100 and 2 hrs of my time for install), I would not have bothered since I was happy with stock. If anyone is thinking of upgrading, I'd opt for real PSE or go with a nice aftermarket. Just my opinion. I know there are a lot of people who have done it and liked it. I heard real PSE and this mod is definitely not close to the same sound.

Quieter than stock??

Update: Mufflers are on the FedEx truck. Scheduled for delivery on 7/10. I am hoping to get the mod done and mufflers installed next week or on the weekend. Will keep everyone posted...very much looking forward to the results.

Chuck, I am going to have Darin do the mod even though my cousin-in-law has the muffler shop. I trust Darin's knowledge for the mod part and have already made contact with him, thanks for the great pictures and feedback on Darin's work, it was what made my decision on who will do this mod. I will have my cousin-in-law install the mufflers at his shop though as he has a lift. I am hoping to do a before and after video w/sound and will post them along with my personal input on the change.

absolutely Chuck. Planning on installing the aluminium pedals tonight, and hoping to do the 3.6 mufflers by the following weekend. So maybe the 15th, how does that look for you? or maybe the 22nd? mate

Not yet but I am about too, but do you know the Part Number of the filter? I already have the CAI in the cart but it doesn't mention which filter to get with it.

Speed: That would work for me...but let's wait till you have Darin do your mufflers for you. I kid you not...that's probably one of the cheapest and most satisfying mod you can buy. You'll have a smile on your face all the way home....keep in touch....we'll get it together.

BTW...you realize that those aluminum pedals will add a good 7HP to the rear wheels...

Gota: How do you expect to sell that car when you screw up all the mods on it like you just did?
