Default 996 Comprehensive Production Breakdown

OK, I know I saw it somewhere (I think), but I can't find it (I did do a search or two, before I posted). I am looking for a production breakdown, year by year, model by model, to include things like how many came with a manual trans vs a tiptronic, black vs tan (or whatever colors) interior, exterior colors, etc, etc, etc. Did my old eyes deceive me or does such a breakdown exist for us older, less skilled goggle searchers?

Thank you.

Here is a thread focused on production numbers. Unfortunately things like colors or numbers of import to the US have never surfaced. If there is more new info, then adding it to this thread is probably useful for the future.

Thanks. I saw this one and it doesn't breakdown anything except how many different basic models C2 HRDTP, C2 Cab, C4 HRDTP, C4 Cab, Turbo, etc by year of manufacture. I did find a more comprehensive data base in the Turbo forum, but is was only for turbo cars. I think it would be great to have a well sorted breakdown of all the 996's, by year, model, and major equipment options (like Tiptronic vs Manual, etc.). Color and other options would be more difficult, but basic numbers of how many were produced, like how many white (and all the other colors) cars, cars with X50 (factory), interior colors, etc, for all model years. I am probably spinning my wheels, but I'd thought I'd ask.

That would be a useful database but the only place it probably exists is in the Porsche archives. Building one form scratch would be a monumental task given the size of 996 production. The info in the Turbo forum was assembled by owners contributing their individual car details, something much easier to do with the smaller sample produced.

You are going to have to accept it doesn't exist. It's like asking if you can determine the engine number from the VIN...no list exists. Try WikiPedia for estimates of production numbers.

There may be stats in tan old Porsche Excellence magazine or Total 911. I got basic stats out of The Essential Companion. May be more stats available in newer printings but I havent checked.

It's not free, but you can get an engine number from a VIN if you purchase a vehicle report here: https://vinanalytics.com/ For $12.99 is a very comprehensive and accurate report...and IMHO as good as the famed Porsche "Birth Certificate" program costing hundreds of dollars more. They pull their data from the Porsche database.

Have you checked out rennbow.org for color information? It's not very granular but it does give you an idea of how rare (or not) a color is.

Color (interior and exterior combo's) is just one thing I was looking at, but more of an aside for a data point. I was mainly wondering how many of each year, and each years different models, came with a manual vs Tiptronic. Then a breakdown of how many came with different major options, like X50, heated seats, aero kits (factory installed), upgraded leather, etc., etc..

Mind posting a picture of your 2001 C4 Cabriolet exterior and interior? With the picture(s) we can determine if you efforts are worth the time. Who knows, you might just have a unicorn.

Not sure you're going to get more detailed information beyond model year and type which are readily available online.

Just testing a theory. Have you ever owned a corvette?

This is a pic from last year, right after I brought her home and after a quick rinse. I don't believe she is anything close to a unicorn and that said, the information I am looking for is not for the car I current own, but for my next "possible" acquisition.

My interactions have been that Corvette owners are very concerned with detailed production specs, and GM provides that data. Then they talk about their pretty typical car as a "unicorn" 1 of only 100 made, which are 2008 automatic convertibles in maroon red, not cherry red, with the aero package, but not the Z06 package, which were built on a Tuesday.

Didn't pan out in this case.

My 996 is a unicorn, but it didn’t start that way.
I had to attach the horn myself.
