Two years ago I put this in my garage to do a bunch of work
new tires, chain, rebuild front forks

A month after I had all the parts, I bought the 996 and it just sat in pieces on stands.
This week I finally put it back together and back on two wheels.
Only to find out the gas tank seal leaks. Had to order one from Suzuki for $50

Maybe next year I'll finally ride it

I miss having a bike. General public on the road hardly make it worth it anymore.

I was a chief instructor, taught and licensed new and experienced riders for over 30 years, then retired during COVID. I had just bought the cab and expected to spend my weekends at club events...most of which were cancelled.
Sometimes now I just put the roof down and drive around with my helmet on...

The Porsche is plenty enough fun to help fill that void, but nothing beats zipping through gears on a bike. Will have to wear mine when handing out Halloween candy this year.

Looks like Germany is leading the "Great Resignation" with more than 6% of it's workforce quitting. I should have been in the Porsche parts business!

Ahhh, to be young, idealist and naive. They will wake up one day and figure out that the handouts don't last forever. Nor does mom and dad's basement.

We deploy in 4 man teams and this particular deployment we did a lot of PR stuff and less operations, so we had a lot of free time. One of my guys is a Vette guy and doesn’t shut up about them, so much so that he tried convincing me to sell my 996 to buy one. I’m incredibly happy that I’ll never have to work with him again… asked him to leave me alone.

They are cool cars, but don't capture my attention as much as the 996 or 911 in general. Driven a few mid/late 2000s on the the track. A lot of torque, big, wide cars. Neutral feeling cars without a lot of feel in the steering, seat or throttle, unlike our 996. In essence, didn't feel the track. Certainly not as nimble as our cars. But incredible power on the straights.

I would like to drive the new one on the track to see if they finally nailed it.

Every C5 near me looks like this, backed by a lovely automatic and an AARP membership
