I love my 99 but I had test driven turbos. Now that I have one and have driven it 3000 miles these things are
awesone, an LS is always going to be a Chevrolet Corvette engine a Mezger is an engineering wonder.
The live auction sites function as social media platforms for auto enthusiasts. It makes sense that they would be the most reactive to price trends, real or imagined. I think fear is driving prices right now. People are expecting a massive crash when in reality its more of a gradual tightening, but that fear causes the crash to become self-fulfilling.
Some GREAT deals to be had as a result! Personally I would list my car for sale at pre-crash price, through traditional avenues, and wait for a bite and then try to snipe something in an auction.
Unfortunately, we have run away inflation. Fed won't be able to do anything gradual. Remember, the world's central banks are all tightening except China and Japan, for now...
Just watched the new Car Wow video on the new 911R. Beautiful car with incredible technology. But all I could think about was how the heck will you trouble shoot and service it after the warranty is up.
Sure, the performance is incredible, but the technological complexity of the new 911s is out of control. Can't imagine what the costs will be to service the car and replace worn parts.
As the covid stimulus induced euphoria goes away quickly, we will be left with the typical depreciation cycle of a 911, littered with the quirks, issues and costs of every new 911 model that aren't known and won't be realized for years.
After watching the video, I realized once again how special 996 ownership is. We already know the issues, every issue has an affordable solution, and the car is aging beautifully as a classic, and it is a true visceral driver's car, one that you drive instead of one that drives you.
Call me old school, but I can't help being bullish over the next few decades on the 996. What's not to love?
Have we finally achieved classic status? Monterey Werks Reunion "Featuring the 996"
According the Wikipedia, July 17, 1997 was the first official day of 996 production, so it looks like Werks Reunion is having a 25th anniversary celebration for the 996.

I've got to agree. I feel like pretty soon we are going to be seeing otherwise perfectly good cars headed to the scrap yard, because the several full on computers inside them are outdated or failing. Along similar lines we have company's like Tesla and BMW trying to make options a service subscription. Imagine when that acts up and stops working...
