A couple dozen R- Series engines exist, most of those are R43 @.4.3L rather than the R40.

Look, I would love to have an R40, regardless, but perhaps I would be better served to have a well-mannered machine with a little more fart and torque of a stage 1 motor that has been blessed with proper refinements that meet and exceed my appetite for a great driving experience without all of those associated problems. The fact is, at least we have choices......

Exactly. To me the Stage I is probably the best overall engine I have from a cost Vs output/ gain perspective. You can keep 100% of the stock ancillaries, and still gain 40HP (+/-) over stock with the least amount of money spent. The Stage I doesn't;t need any upgrades, and works better without them.

Pictures of the R40 drive people crazy and make them think of mortgaging their house. Please don't publish pictures of the X50...

The prospect of getting the R40/43 engine makes me interested in the possibility of getting a 997.1 instead of a 997.2...

That brings up a good point..

Someone asked me last week about an R- Series for a 9A1 engine. I have no plans to offer something cool like this for the 9A1 engines. I personally hate building them, and have no desire to do something like this with them. We build up to 4.2L engines for the 9A1 cars, but something like an R- Series isn't in the cards for those engines. My 4.2 "Cayman X" engine was born in February 2010, ahead of everything, and everybody else, and though we build an increasing number of 9A1 engines, we keep them simple, and proven.

If you are coming to Kauai, bring a case of DT40, we've got an R40 to feed!

We are here on Kauai for our anniversary. Before we came I asked Bill if he needed anything. DT40 was the request. Apparently it's about $200 to ship a case of oil over here. So I brought over all the DT40 I could find in a day.(10qts) United wrapped it up in a nice bag. I got a tiny arm workout carrying it around to the rental car. Had a really nice lunch and chat with Bill. I missed the timing to help put the R40 in, but that's OK. I'll be back next year with another case to feed the monster!

Cool, I‘ll have to tell my wife that we need to schedule a trip to HI because Bill needs more oil.
That’s gotta be a good reason to go to HI.

But.... you won't be using DT40 until the engine has at least 7,500 miles, and has met all my milestones :-)

Bill’s stocking up.
2 oil changes per year for the life of the engine = LOTS of DT40.
That means Bill needs lots of visits from Rennlisters.

Hey Bill, how does this sound?
1 case of DT40 mean Bill let’s you take a peek under the rear decklid at a Genuine R40.
2 cases means Bill will start it up and take it for a long drive.
3 cases means Bill will take you with him.
