Default My R40 Biuld

Here's the damage Jake discovered...
It's at LN now and we hope to have it all built by the end of March. This thing is going to be a beast!
I can't wait to feel a properly balanced motor pushing 400HP out back! Stay tuned.

I bet she would do a great job.
She’s pretty much just helping me keep my personal customers up to date. She takes photos, sorts them, puts them in Dropbox and sends the customer their updates.

It took her a few months to get her first 914 engine completed. We are installing it into my Wife’s beetle after we finish Bill’s engine. The 914 based, roller cammed Nickies engine I did for it in 2008 is tired.

She built a 9,000 RPM two- stroke Honda FL-350 engine for her Odyssey.. 14:1 CR, Nikisil bore, with all the tricks. She is a maniac behind the wheel.. It hasn’t blown up yet, but we have a spare engine that she’s already built, because I know it’s coming.

Ava has her own engine program, training other kids about engines.

Paddle was a Porsche Part. I think it was collateral damage though.

The IMS drive chain tensioner failed.. That is what led to the tensioner paddle failure.
Also note there's no snap ring holding the IMS bearing into the shaft. Whomever did the replacement left the snap ring out of the equation.

Attention to detail is in short supply these days. Leaving off snap rings, dirty bores, not checking for foreign objects, reusing wear parts on expensive engine rebuilds is like a tire guy at the Porsche dealer forgetting to tighten your wheel lugs and turning your Pcar into a tripod entering a busy intersection. Costs of either happening are both too high.

It all stems from the way these technicians are paid.. It promotes negligence, and haphazard procedures. Couple that to most "technicians" today not having a natural mechanical aptitude, and you have a recipe for disaster.

I bet that “tech” has a junk door in his tool box filled with spare parts😁

One time, years ago someone had an LN classic single row bearing fail.. It was probably the very first issue the product ever had, circa 2008. The guy made a huge stink over it, sending videos and being threatening. I was asked to technically assist, to see what happened.
In one of the videos the guy sent I saw the retention snap ring in a tool box drawer.. I called him out, and he had no idea that he had left it out, leading to the issues.

As always, it is easier to be a victim, than a failure.

I used to work with a guy that always had leftover screws, nuts, washers etc. when he was done with a job (he was a maintenance/mechanical guy)... I’d always call him out on it if I was around (in a fun/joking/poking way - he wasn’t building engines thank god)... He’d always come back with “ahhhh you don’t need them anyway”...
