I’ve been living with this for awhile. Foam everywhere, but the A/C and heater still work. Wife opened the closed passenger side vent today and got a face full of foam. While it was funny to me, I guess that is a sign that I need to tackle this job.

I don't know if someone already said this back in January in response, but I think that the "book"-method to repair these flaps is to remove the entire dash, remove and replace the entire ductwork assembly, and reinstall everything. I suspect that is what this quote was for.
It ispretty excessive ludicrous.
EDIT: clarified my opinion!

It’s obscene and the reason dealership’s deserves a bad rap

It is pretty excessive.
here is the procedure divided into 3 segments, in case someone would like to follow it.
I made this write-up back in 2012 when I bought my first Porsche (2001 Boxster S) with a leaking evaporator.
step 1. heater core removal.

step 2. dashboard cover removal.

step3. evaporator replacement and flaps re-foaming.

Your a/c when running, will be fighting against the heater and probably not winning.
What if my ac blows cold? Mine is blowing thin foam shards out, nothing horrible. If I have good AC, should I do the repair or just let it erode until, out of sight out of mind haha. I've never had the heater on, live in the south...I do have heated seats icoe.

That estimate makes sense. To have factory trained technicians perform a factory quality repair the way the factory said to do it. These might be $25k cars now but they weren't when new.

yeah, 100% this. The expectation that the dealer would do a hack job (not that there is anything fundamentally wrong with the way people are doing it here) for a couple bucks is simply unrealistic. You go to the dealer, you get what the book says. No surprise.

Advanced
My nearest dealer, and I'm not in the most expensive area in the nation, charges $250/hr for labor and the book says a battery install is a 1 hour job. They are also running an oil change "special" for $399, except by the time you pay the overage for a car that holds 9 quarts + tax you're at $500 LOL!
