I bought the cheapest Porsche on Craigslist and the IMS bearing has failed.

I've found there are a few here that go out of their way to be anti-social, call anyone else's stuff junk, or otherwise can find nothing positive to add to any conversation. All I can say: karma's a bitch.

The bike tire freaked me out for a split second until I remembered that the bike is hanging from the rafters right above where I was working.

No BS.
Truth.
Nice thing about opinion blogs is we can disagree.

Pull the oil pump off and take a close look at the condition of the pump lobes and housing. It will tell you a lot about how much of that kind of debris got sucked up etc.
you might have gotten lucky with this, if all that debris is just the IMS itself you *might* have caught it in time and some minimal work and $ will get it back on the road. Still gotta hand rotate and scope etc, replace IMS and flush flush flush!

Great, every time u post u bring up this point. Your arguement really looses traction when posting in a tread about a car with a catastrophic failure. This motor is a full dissassembly and rebuild at this point and someone is going to profit from it and it has nothing to do with the guys 'hyping' the issue.

C'mon Bill, it's a big world. I'm pretty sure there's more than one qualified shop for the M96. Besides, from rumors(actually from the guy himself), they are so backed up with work, they won't even talk to you until Trump is re-elected. (oops, that were an accident!)

Agree with Bill - you two trolls are getting tiresome.

As far as Karma is concerned, I couldn't care less as I'm not a practitioner of Hinduism or Buddhism.

Good to know but you can surely understand my skepticism as this is a very curious way to purchase a first Porsche (i.e., paying $7,500 for a high-priced European roller without having a prior plan to professionally fix or replace the engine, or possessing the experience or knowledge to fix the engine (or even knowing what these options will cost) yourself).
I wish you the best of luck in getting the car back on the road...if you can salvage the engine with minor DIY repairs it will prove to be an excellent deal for you but the amount of debris that has circulated through that running engine may have, unfortunately, turned much of it into scrap metal.

Now I have a fantastic running and good looking 02 for $10K (roller + motor).
