What did you do to your 996 today?

Dipstick
Day 4 of my 2000 Porsche 996 ownership and thought I would check the oil. How do you read this orange dipstick? The oil is new and I can't tell where the level is.

Then im guessing its too low. It should be checked in a cold motor on flat ground and be half way between the 2 drilled holes. Put it in the sunlight and u can see the oil reflect.

bmchan, congrats on getting your 2000 996!
My oil dipstick is orange plastic and the oil should be near the top of the knurled section, not at the very top or above the top.
There is also a very clever display of oil level just to the lower left of your fuel gauge. Turn on the ignition, but don't start the car. Wait a few seconds and a crescent will appear that shows solid bars for the oil level. Best is a couple of bars below the top as it's important not to overfill the oil. Should be done with oil cold and the oil level gauge counts down seconds until it displays. A cool gadget!

I gave it a quick wash because I may take the hard top off in the next couple of days if the rain holds off - and I like to put the top away clean. I also "installed" a new gas cap (attached the tether).

When you pull the dipstick, lay the dipstick on paper towel horizontally and check where the towel is wet and the mark without moving the dipstick.

I changed my motor mounts this afternoon. The hardest part was taking off the mass air sensor connector. All in all, about 1.5 hours including lifting the car up.
Made a difference in the shifting; no longer a snug push into first when cold.

Got my horn working again, although it took three tries this morning. Left for Newcomb's at 7am only to find that my car was honking on its own as I turned the wheel. That would be pretty embarrassing so had to fix it. Thought I got it working only to find I had no horn but whatever, I was running late for my drive so I'd make due with no horn (canyons seem to be the only place I use the horn though). In my haste, my steering wheel wasn't aligned vertically. Fixed all that when I got home today.

This is a terrible job to do but wrapped my cats with lava wrap (yes, I'm aware of possible concerns) since I won't be running a rear bumper bar and heat shield so this will help prevent my bumper from melting.

Built a rolling storage unit for jacks, stands, and liftbars. Takes little space, quick to position items at vehicle, and expect system will raise a 996 high enough to drop engine.
