Installed 160f Thermostat, now the gauge reads just across the 8 before it was between 8 and 0, so is a bit cooler. This is with AC on and in heavy traffic, 91f ambient temperature.

My water pump was replace at FSI a few years ago when they did installed my IMS Solution.
I've been wondering if they perhaps installed the cooler thermostat or not.
My needle is normally at the leading edge of the 0, so I guess I won't be wasting money if I go ahead and buy a 160deg thermostat and install it when I install the center radiator.
For this weekend, I replaced my failing starter and the associated alternator/starter 'Y' cable. Used the 'hot water' trick to get the plastic housing off the new cable when installing it which made the routing of the new cable so much easier. Car had been experiencing slow starts, even when cold (more-so when hot), and the occasional screeching sound on startup that made going to Cars and Coffees an exercise in embarrassment when starting up to leave.
Car starts much better, faster now, even on hot starts, so feels like a new car.
In addition to that, I also upgraded my 997 shifter mechanism (put in last year for the shorter throws over the stock 996 unit) with Ben's short-shift kit and upgraded metal bushings. Haven't driven it a ton yet, but shifter feel is way more precise now. Looking forward to breaking that in over the next few days.
All in all, car feel fresh again.
Next, suspension refresh.... lots of 17 year old bushings that are starting to broadcast their age while driving. May switch to coilovers while I'm at it. We'll see. I put Koni FSD's on a couple years ago and they are fine, but I'm thinking I'd like it a little lower and tighter in the turns than the FSD's were able to deliver.
1) I still have a slight vibration above 80mph.
Since I just installed coilovers, and then had someone else align it, I decided to pull all the wheels and check torque on everything I touched and the alignment shop touched.
Everything was properly torqued.
I also torqued the wheels properly like normal.
I haven’t gotten a chance to test drive above 80mph, but I felt a little vibration at about 70mph.
2) I cleaned my wheels before remounting them.
3) I did the sidemarker mod.
My 996.2 wiring was different than the DIY instructions.
On the left, the black/white wire was not in pin 7.
It was in pin 4.
I backprobed the black/white wire and confirmed it was the correct wire.
On the right, I didn’t have the connector in the DIY instructions.
My connector went to a lighting controller.
I assume mine is different because I have Xenon lights.
I found a black/green wire and backprobed it to confirm it was the turnsignal.
Since there was little space to use butt splices, I used an IDC wire connector, which I really hate using.
But since it doesn’t carry much current, I’m sure it will be ok.

Get your tires Hunter Road Force Balanced, most all Discount Tire's have them. If the "number" is above 20 for a tire, then you're going to have issues with it.

Luckily it's time for new tires.
I'm kinda hoping it might be a wheel balance issue.
Still trying to decide between Michelin Pilot Super Sports (Loved them on my BMW) and the new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.
I currently have some well used Bridgestone Potenzia S.04 Pole Position tires that were on it when purchased last year.
I've not been a fan of them, although they do seem to grip well.
I've thought they were a bit noisy compared to the PSS on my BMW.
But that's an Apple/orange comparison.
Drove it like it was stolen. Surrounded by some big horsepower. The 996 had no problem holding it's own. These cars are amazing! Many positive comments on my 200 cell xpipe w/ muffler deletes. It sounded amazing! UMC outer loop Saturday, UMC full course (second longest track in the nation at almost 4.5 miles). Come drive it with me sometime!
What did I do?? Drove it to work.. spirited drive on my normal commute, this car was meant to be driven, so I oblige. On my way home this morning, my bare bones 99 C2 6mt/LSD will turn over 180k on the original engine.
Later this week I'll finish the details on the custom exhaust I built and while it is off I'll install the RennLine motor mounts I picked up used here on RL. Also have a used Schnell short shifter en route and if it gets here on one of my days off it'll go in this weekend too.
