I've tried third-gear starts before but got slower times because the engine's off the power curve near 60 MPH, even though I saved a 0.5-second shift. However, if you shift slower than 0.5 seconds, your time could be faster if you start in third.

TB993TT was kind enough to send me a speedo video for his RS Tuning 993TT. He has 60 to 130 MPH in 7.7 seconds! This is very impressive. I'll let him describe the details. Looks like he saved the 2 to 3 shift time by starting in 3rd gear. In any case, this is one of the fastest 60 to 130s I've seen in a 993 TT besides by own Ruf.

Good one TB. The car sounds great. How close or comparable was the accelerometer data relative to the video data?

Keith
I am really pleased about the sound the motor now makes. I had these special huge race cats welded into a full larger diameter 19.5mm/73/4" system with Cargraphic Race exhausts. I was dreading it being loud and droney (is that a word ?) but it is actually less harsh than before and sounds beautiful on WOT.
Pic of pipework going into cats:

Regarding the accelerometer. It is the tilt factor which I believe screws things up a bit 'cos the numbers change dramatically if your change this number. The tilt factor is there to allow for how much squat there is on acceleration which again adds a variable since a stock chassis car will squat differently to a modded car. The manufacturers say (rightly) that the tilt factor number must be determined for the individual car by calibrating it for example on a drag strip where accurate numbers can be had.
I have sent Bill another little vid with a 2nd gear start which shows a slower time. I think it is my motors relatively high lower end torque (at 60 mph it is right on peak torque in 3rd giving ~450hp) made available by the twin plug/high boost which makes the 3rd gear start so quick.

Very nice. It has got to put a on your face now that it performs so consistently for you.

I don't know anything about accelerometers I was just wondering if you felt they gave you meaningful information.

Here's another video from TB993TT with the 2 to 3 shift. 60 to 130 is 8.6 seconds, which is about the same as the Ruf. I'll need to try a 3rd gear start to see if there's a power difference at low RPM between the Ruf and RS Tuning cars.

BTW, when you see the CGT 60 to 130 time of 7.3 seconds, that's with only two shifts, not 3, so I would expects TBs car to accelerate nearly the same as a CGT. At least that's what I've seen with my Ruf.

Hello

It seems that the speedo reads 4 mph to optimistic (at 125 mph)
This is better than the average 5%

Ok Guys, wait until you see this. Rennlister DKnebes's video, getting a 60-130 in 5 seconds or so. 2 words: sick fast!

Congrats David, you have one of the fastest Porsches ever. The Kremer K3 is a joke compared to yours, obviously strictly speaking about acceleration. Stock 930 turbo car look, stock weight and gearbox. Enjoy it guys.

I am expecting a couple more cars to post their videos, they claim 800 + hp.

This is what we want to see
What sort of 911 is it ?, the tach suggests 930 ? weight ? if so is it 4 speed or 5 ? that boost guage appears to be holding around 1.5 bar
What is wrong with the tach bouncing around everywhere - is that what the old ones did, I can't remember the 930 days

TB, nice huh 23 psi, stock weight or close to it, great engine build. My 965 used to be all over the place like that. I will ask David to chime in, he has already answered his share of questions , he then went quickly and bought a camera mount, great guy!

Ok I was asked to come over to the 993tt board. My car is a 89 930 5 speed and it's weight was 3010lbs before I put the roll bar in. The tach was bouncing because I was trying to get the turbo wound up before I started to go. I tried second gear but had uncontrolled tire spin. When I get a set of drag radials I will bring that time down to 4.5 seconds. The Boost is set for 18lbs but because of the HP and large Turbo it over runs the Tial 46 wastegate. I will be installing twin Tial 44 to correct. The boost continues to climb to 22.7 but makes it peek hp at 22.2. I was running 119 octane gas and no I don’t intended to run this boost on a road course. I may take it to the drag strip to see what kind of numbers and that will be it. Yes I know this will shorten the life of the engine.

The engine will probably last longer than the driver! What a beast!

My question: 130 MPH is license-loosing territory. Where can one run at these speeds in the U.S.?

Also, I guess yiu folkd ran a stop-watch on the video and timed to period between 60 and 130 MPH. Can you see those speeds clearly from this video? If the shot was tighter on the speedo I guess it could be more accurate. I guess my root question is what kind of human error is there using this technique.

I'm nit sayiing that this is not a fast car. It'll blow the doors off my RUF. Just asking questions like an engineer (ala my prior life), that's all.
