The article is about a friend [I met in the online 911 world a coupla years ago] and me, and our parallel journeys with our respective 993..

Despite both being Polar Silver Carrera, my path was/is a restorative & lightweighting one, his more traditional restoration, so the two cars have ended up quite different in weight, handling and purpose..

I guess it's comparison of Cheese and Cheese, just very differing Cheeses..!

FD Golden Rod
FD SSK
Lightweight flywheel
RS clutch
RS motor mounts
KW V3 coilovers w/ERP bump steer tie rod kit
Fister Stage III exhaust
Huge pile of pre-emptive maintenance. Basically everything short of a top end.

The car is no longer the same. It’s turned into something completely different. Snarling, precise, eager and fast. Hard core. Feels like a real, old school sports car.

Awesome setup! What lightweight flywheel did you go with? This is next in my list.

I know the feeling I’ve done all the same things with the exception of Bilstein PSS10 and a combination of empty stock muffler cans and an X pipe instead of the catalyst, tie rods are next.
I recently helped a friend sell a 987 RS60 Which is a wonderful car very nice power and handling but I prefer my 993 absolutely no question.

I believe the flywheel is a Sachs unit. I bought the kit through Darin at FD motorsports. Includes throwout bearing, fork bearing, pilot tube, pilot bearing, pressure plate, clutch disk, ring gear, flywheel and RMS along with some hardware I believe. Pretty much everything. Can't say enough good things about Darin - super nice guy with great prices and good advice. What else could you ask for?

This is one of those mods where the hype is real. Heel toe is ridiculously easy - the car revs so freely. It really jumps from a stop - initial tip in is much more eager. Rattles are minimal. Zero stalls with my '98 in stop and go traffic on the way home - a/c on and off. I am really thrilled with how it drives now. I doubt it's actually faster or wheel HP has meaningfully increased - but the feel of the car is very different.
