I will be 54 on the 3rd of June....bought my first Porsche in 1973 after getting out of the US Army and the next one will be # 12.....I was hooked by a ride in a new 1967 911S while hitch-hiking home from Charlottesville in college...over the mountains on US 33....what a car!

1st Porsche, late 1998, a 99 996.
2nd, in Feb 2002, a 73 RSR Replica
3rd, in Jan 03, an 01 996TT to replace the 996NA.

how many of you young guys actually bought your own car? I stole my money fair and square from the Texas Rangers, but it seems that somebody's driving dad's car...
I think that P-cars and P-car Drivers of any age suffer from the excess zest for every last heartbeat in life. I think that those people driving p's at 80 years are rock stars (high compliment in youth cultural slang terms).
My insurance is about 2K for my C2S.

Love my 993, though it is starting to cost significant repair dollars. What's next?

I just turn 16, my dad got me a 993.

Currently at 39, I couldn't imagine owning anything else besides a Porsche. I started imagining that in 1973 when my neighbor came home with a new silver 911S. Have been hooked since:

@12 a Martini Racing 935 1/8th scale
@22 a thrashed 944 (couldn't afford a 911)
@26 a 911SC Cab (kept for many years)
@38 my current 993
Next...another Porsche, of course and it will likely be a 356 cab of some sort.

Yes, I drive my dad's car (a Boxster S) from time to time, but the 951 and 993 are mine. I'm transitioning from the 951 to the 993 right now because the 951 is too nice of an example to turn into a track car, so I'm selling it. Yes, I paid for the 993. I started my own lawn business when I was in fifth grade and have turned a nice profit since then.

I don't have the car up here at school because it's way more expensive to insure, and it doesn't do me any good half of the year because we're a foot deep in snow. But when my dad wants to drive it, he asks me.

I don't have the Porsche because I'm some spoiled brat. I have the car because I appreciate Porsche's engineering prowess. (I study chassis design and vehicle dynamics all day long) I am very fortunate to have the opportunities I have had at such a young age.

Even if teenagers are learning to drive their parent's Porsches, it's likely they'll be Porsche owners some day. I think it's great, as long as they can appreciate the car for it's design and not because it's something they can show off.

Good for you DanO. I sure didn't pay for mine. I just used some of the money that the institutional investors and greedy folks that "wanted in on the IPO" gave me in exchange for some useless pieces of paper that I ended up with.

Unfortunately, now I'm being forced to learn alot of lessons you probably picked up when you were 10.
