Just switched to Brad Penn 20w50 per my trusted mechanics request who spends his day rebuilding air cooled engines.
The real question is whether this thread will go 10 pages......

Of course--he would have no business if he recommended a good oil. Just kidding
I am a BP fan as well.
My guess is at least 20 pages because this is a new and exciting topic which has not really been covered

My mechanic recommended changing from Mobil1 to Motul 6100 15w/50 so that's what I'm using.

The slippery kind. Whatever is recommended in the owner's manual.
I use Mobil 15W-50 synthetic. I think that is close enough.
For a topic that causes so much concern, there must be a lot of oil related engine failures out there.

Miles on the drain interval? How old? Did you add any oil in between?
Blackstone can do an UOA for about $25. One test will tell you a lot, but not everything.
It was 1 year interval with about 1,200 km only. The car has about 50,000 km now.

Hi
For me it has to be Castrol magnatec 10/40. My 185k engine looks really clean and unworn inside and it has run on that oil for the last 125k at least.

Just checked and mine has 5W40 now. I guess whatever the best for your car really depends on where you are and how you drive.

LOL! It was an epic battle. Lots of cussing. Bloody knuckles. Mountains of tools. But I won. And I will never overtighten a filter again!
