Default another 993 speedster is on the way

after spending a lot of hours to read curve lover's and graham's thread about their red and blue 993 speedsters, i decided a month ago to build my own one in the future.
Two weeks ago i found by luck a half-ready / never finished speedster project built on a '96 targa. After several emails and phone calls last saturday i drove 1.200 km tö Köln/Germany and bought this "beauty"

within 1-2 weeks we start the project: dismount all the panels, making a list from the missing parts, etc.

I will make a lot of photos for the ducumentation of the project and for the rennlist community.

regards to all forum members, who are reading this thread

RP

p.s: sorry for my english, it's not my mother tounge

Yeah, the other Speedster builds here on RL really had me thinking seriously (and still) about building one. I would very much love to have one, it would be a great project!

Key is to find just what you found as a starter car!!

Making the world a more beautiful place, one Speedster at a time

RP-- What color will the finished product be?
Is the interior complete, as advertised in its March 2009 listing?
Good luck!

RP-- Hope you enjoyed ^^ that 2009 thread ^^ as much as we'll enjoy yours!
As many have said: always glad to help another RLer spend their money

You're already off to a good start; other serious Speedster enthusiasts contacted me, pursuing her after reading the following 2009 post on the "Speedster type 993 photo thread" thread:

Some serious enthusiasts have relayed their desire to convert a 993 to a Speedster.
Here's an unfinished project; I can't vouch for anything regarding quality, factory parts or lack thereof, worksmanship, pre-bodywork condition, etc.
For example, that may be a WB front rocker extension, followed by narrow-body rear rockers.

In the off chance you find it helpful, especially to someone in Europe:

Hi Folks,

i'm very impressed from the lot of fast and enthusiastic comments! i'm trying to keep you updated, but it depend's on my freetime. My plan is to finish it to June, so it will be a busy 4 months :-)

Colour of the car:
i was thinking about white and orange. Although oringe is my favourite, white should be the better colour for 993. I know, becouse i have a 993 4s in grand prix white. (This small project is just finished, the car will be registrated next week)
back to the colour: i haven't decided the colour yet:

1, grand prix white (original 993 colour till 1996)
2, firn white (original 993 colour from 1997)
3, actual carrara white from 997

when i get back my 4S, i'll go to the local Porsche dealer to see the new and old (grand prix) white side by side.

I have already bought Techart Formula 18" wheels in black, turbo calipers will be installed in speed yellow plus yellow safty belts. There will be also a small suprise for us ;-)

All right!

Hopefully the car came with the critical Speedster components... looks like the previous owner had already spent a lot of time and money on the project.
Congratulations!

Hi Curve Lover!

special thanks for your comment!
First of all, your thread helped me to spend my money! This is why friend are for...

You're right, it is the same car. The former owner bought the car in 2001, started the project but stopped it in 2003. The interior is complete: recaro sport seats (not hardback seats, so i think, i will sell them), dashboard, doors, carpet, etc. There are to relevant parts missing:

1. mechanic for buckle
2. mechanic for speedster cabrio top.

The front rocker are WB, but i will replace them becouse it was damaged and i will buy new one
The rear rockers are NB, but i will install turbo quoter panels.

My target is to get a "factory quality" speedster, like yours.

im not one for chopping 993's..... but that looks great! love the windshield!

do not paint the car a flashy color as the body style speaks for itself..... be subtle and classy....

Agreed! Yes, Welcome to RL. Many of us have wondered where this project went and if someone would post the build on Rennlist so I'm sure I speak for many of us here when I say I am thrilled to see the car being completed and hopefully we will be able to watch you do that through your pictures and posts here. White? Orange? Viper Green? Who Cares?? IT'S A SPEEDSTER!!!

I can tell this car is going to give me sleepless nights. Two things.....white and keep the wheels that are on it.

i'm a big fan of fancy porsche colours: speed yellow (see my avatar), viper green or "jaegermeister" orange is a hip colour, but IMHO a speedster is not the ultimate race machine, but a classy, elegant sport car. That's why i've chosen white. But to tell the truth: decission is not 100%.

My idea is to replace the trunk hood with carbon-fibre panel, but it's fine with white and orange also...

wheels: i have a lot of wheels: 993 turbo twist (3 sets), 996 turbo hollow spoke (see the pics), Techart Formula 18, so i can make the decission later..
